This was our second stay at Cape Shark Villas, and overall we absolutely loved it again. We did have a bit of a rocky start. We were originally booked into C16B, which unfortunately is right in front of the main generator for the property. That meant there was a constant humming noise, which really took away from the peace you expect in a place like this. If you can, I would strongly recommend choosing villas past the reception area. They are noticeably quieter and much more peaceful, and that is where we stayed on our previous visit. There was also some building work going on during our stay. We completely understand that expansion is necessary, but noise management is something they really need to be mindful of. You do not want to be lying there with that incredible view, trying to relax, while hearing machinery in the background. That said, the staff were incredibly understanding. Even though it was peak season over New Year and availability was tight, they worked hard to find us an alternative that we were happy with. The staff really are one of the biggest highlights here. Every single person we dealt with was friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. They represent the very best of Thai hospitality and will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is enjoyable. We also love the little touches in the villas. Having basics like bread, eggs, and milk already there is great, as it means you can easily make a simple breakfast without running to the shop. Prices were reasonable too. Obviously more than a supermarket, but nowhere near typical hotel or minibar prices. The views are honestly breathtaking and the main reason we came back. An infinity pool overlooking the ocean with stunning sunsets never gets old. One small downside for us was that our villa had quite a lot of IKEA cutlery and furnishings. It felt a bit out of place for what is meant to be one of the more luxurious properties on the island. It seems like each villa may be individually owned, so this likely varies, but it was a slight disappointment. The shuttle service into town is another big plus. It saves money and hassle, especially since the hills up to the villas are very steep and not ideal if you are thinking about renting a moped. That said, the location is beautifully quiet and completely away from the hustle and bustle. If you want to be right in the middle of town, this is not the place, but for us that was exactly what we wanted. The last shuttle back is at 9pm, which is a bit early, but taxis were easy enough. For six of us it usually cost around 500 to 600 baht total, which felt reasonable. They can also help link you up with a regular taxi driver. Another nice touch is the collection of menus from local restaurants in the villa. If you do not feel like cooking, you can order food straight to your room. Just be aware that delivery can take a while, which is not the hotel’s fault, so it is best to order well in advance and not rely too heavily on quoted delivery times. We also appreciated the mobile phone they provide. Having a local Thai number and an easy way to contact reception was really useful. They handled our laundry, and whenever we needed extra beers or minibar items, staff brought them over within minutes. Reception does close at 5pm, and you need to book the minibus in advance, which caught us out a couple of times, but it was never a major issue. Four years ago it was just me and my partner. This time we came back with four friends, and it worked perfectly. Everyone had their own space, and we would meet up in the larger villas for sunset drinks and evenings together. We would absolutely recommend Cape Shark Villas. It is clear we love it, given this was our second stay. There are a few tweaks needed, and it is worth being careful about villa location if noise is a concern, but the staff are fantastic and very helpful if you communicate with them. Overall, an amazing place that we would happily return to again.
