We decided to book the Pattawiya Resort for a special anniversary getaway, as we wanted some relaxing downtime near the beach but away for the hubbub of many other areas. As it was the low / rainy season in Pranbury area, we got peace and tranquillity in spades! Pattawiya Resort has all the comforts and facilities you could want, across the road from the beach just south of the central coastal strip. As described in other reviews, you can see that the resort could use some TLC to return it to its earlier splendour, however the accommodation was excellent, service was great and our experience as guests was superb. We are travelling on a moderate budget and our accommodation must-haves for this trip were 1) nice beachside location, 2) air con room, 3) pool, 4) free wifi, 4) ensuite bathroom, 5) breakfast included, 6) coffee / tea making facilities - all of which is provided here to a very good standard. Our top-floor room was spacious and had everything we needed. The views were amazing, both over the pool area and ocean from the balcony, and out over farmland and distant hills from the entrance to our room from the rear of the building. Bed was comfy and the air con and showers were both great. At the time we visited, there were very few other guests, with the exception of 4-busloads of conference attendees who stayed for 2 nights. We were advised of this at check in, and as most of the time the attendees were out and about, we had hardly any disruption. Karaoke night (which took place in a separate area) was a little loud, but not a problem from inside our room :-) Breakfast had a lot of choices in western and asian-style dishes, lots of fruit and salad. There are fried and boiled eggs, plus cook-to-order omelettes. Get there early for the best selection of hot food. Due to the low season, there were not as many food choices around, however we did find enough good nearby options to give us great meals plus variety. Imsook Resort and Uncle Yod Pranburi Seafood Restaurant were particularly good. The convenience stores are all about a 15-20 minute walk away. On the Friday night, we found a big street food market in the central area of the foreshore, so keep that in mind. Would recommend this for anyone seeking a nice seaside getaway.

First the good - the enormous room overlooking the sea was bright and comfortable. In fairness the hotel has been hard hit by the lock down rules but the few staff made every effort to put things right when the was a shortfall. Breakfast ok, but basic. When I found out that the fried eggs were cold the cook immediately came up with freshly made fried eggs. The investment needed to bring this 2/3 star hotel up to scratch will be enormous but this type of hotel is probably beyond its sell-by date. One surprise were the splendid bas-reliefs on the walls of the conference room, just visble from the dining room.

Having read the previous reviews, I kind of knew what to expect before checking in. I came here to spend a relaxing weekend with my girlfriend and as a whole, this place did the job. I wanted a quiet place for the weekend and that's what I got. This hotel is nicely located on a quiet beach road (with no beach, but just a beachfront promenade, which I knew before booking) and far from the city, so that's a great place to stay if you want to relax. I kind of liked the charm of that huge hotel which looked great from the outside. The staff at the reception could have been friendlier, but the check-in process was effective. My special request for a room on the last floor was also granted. The room on the 6th floor offered very nice views over the swimming pool and sea. It was a big and nicely decorated room with a nice balcony so I was nicely surprised at first sight. Another good point was that the bed was huge and comfortable. Things went a bit wrong after I had a closer look. The bathroom was quite dark and gloomy. The bathtub looked nice so I decided to give it a try, but filling it with hot water took more than 30 minutes because of the low hot water pressure. I wasn't able to pull the bathtub plug afterwards and since I didn't want to bother having someone in the room to fix it, I just left it, so it was the only bath I could take. The water pressure in the shower was also horrendous and the water was barely warm after 10 minutes. I also noticed some mold on the external wall of the bathroom, which meant that the bathtub was probably leaking. The built-in air conditioning unit was effective but old-fashioned (no remote, just a command on the wall) and the filters had completely been removed, which didn't look nice at all. The furniture was really worn and definitely needed a coat of wood stain or ... two. I really enjoyed sitting on the balcony which was of decent size and offered very nice views, but again, serious renovation works should be done here, as the guardrail was loose in some parts. Pigeons were also a problem in terms of cleanliness, even though I know that's a common problem in Thailand. The WiFi connection was a bit slow, but still acceptable. On a positive note, the room was quiet and the atmosphere was pleasant, especially in the evening. The common areas also looked OK but definitely needed a brush up, at the image of the room. Contrary to what I could read in some previous comments, the swimming pool itself was very clean and of a good size. However, the wooden deck that surrounded it was in a pretty poor state. I even noticed some broken wooden planks which could really be dangerous if someone stepped on it. As for the breakfast, it was OK. The choice was fair enough and the food was good. This hotel could really be a nice place if it was properly maintained. Although I mostly enjoy my stay there, I can't understand why the management doesn't seem to be willing to undertake a few basic renovation works. I don't think the place needs to be fully renovated. Just a general brush up and some basic fixings, such as a few paint and wood stain coats, new air-con units, a plumbing update, a complete renovation of the wooden floor around the pool and so on would make this hotel a really nice place to stay. I hope the management will consider this piece of advice, as I'd really like to return.
