Worth the drive from Phuket airport to stay at this magnificent hotel. This resort for us was a 10 out of 10 for us. Our villa was lovely with its own pool. The villa was extremely comfortable with ample space. Our villa had a large bedroom, double vanity sink with shower room and living area. Villa was cleaned in the morning and turn down service in the evening; shut all curtains and replenish towels if needed. The food was abundant with choices, prepared beautifully with high quality ingredients and delivered with top notch service. We took advantage of the massage that was included in our package. We booked a longer massage during our time here because the massage was so relaxing the first time. This resort is secluded off the beaten path of Khao Lak but close enough to enjoy the town for a little excitement. We would definitely come back to this resort when visiting Phuket.

Amazing stay @devasom. Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, nice pool area, directly next to the beach, perfect food with two restaurants (mixed and thai) and super friendly staff. A little bit of paradise on earth-really. We travelled with 4 kids und 4 adults.

“Devasom: A resort that looks better from a distance than up close”

We visited Devasom Khao Lak as part of a Thailand trip which also included Six Senses Yao Noi and Pimalai Resort & Spa. Devasom ended up being the most difficult resort of the journey to rate fairly because the stay combined genuinely enjoyable strengths with equally obvious weaknesses. The location itself is excellent. The beach is wide, calm and ideal for long walks, and this part of Khao Lak still feels pleasantly undeveloped compared with many other beach destinations in Thailand. The lagoon next to the resort also gives the property a unique and relaxing atmosphere. Service throughout the stay was consistently warm and friendly. Housekeeping did a very good job, and staff were attentive without feeling overly formal. We also appreciated the complimentary minibar setup in the Sky Villa category. Drinks were replenished reliably every day, and the resort even fulfilled individual drink requests without any issues. We stayed in one of the Sky Villas, and the 17-metre private pool was honestly one of the highlights of the entire Thailand trip. Especially in the evening, with the lighting activated, the atmosphere around the pool became genuinely beautiful. Quite frankly, this pool helped us overlook many of the resort’s weaker aspects during the stay. The steam room inside the villa was also good, and the spa overall delivered a very solid experience, even if treatments were expensive compared with local alternatives across the lagoon. Food quality was generally good as well. One evening the resort offered a Thai buffet dinner. Pricing was ambitious, but the quality itself was absolutely fine. We also enjoyed dinner inside the Thai restaurant on another evening. Overall, the culinary side of the resort was fully acceptable for the category, even if it never became a standout highlight. Guests willing to leave the resort occasionally should also consider walking a few minutes down the beach to 8 Fish. The atmosphere there was relaxed and uncomplicated, with tables directly in the sand, very good Thai food and considerably lower prices than inside the resort. Especially during a longer stay, it provided a nice contrast to hotel dining. Unfortunately, the problems started becoming visible almost immediately after arrival. On the way to the elevator leading toward the Sky Villa area, we briefly felt as if we were being guided through a service corridor rather than through a luxury resort. The elevator itself looked dirty and tired, with a stained mirror that, as far as we could tell, was not cleaned even once during our entire stay. Right outside the elevator area was a strange decorative lamp with visibly exposed wiring — exactly the kind of detail that completely breaks the illusion of luxury. And that ultimately became the defining problem of Devasom: the resort works much better from a distance than up close. From the Sky Villa, we looked directly onto the roofs of the smaller villas below. Many already looked heavily weathered and worn despite the resort not even being particularly old. The same impression continued throughout large parts of the property. The reddish coating on many pathways was visibly peeling. Metal elements showed corrosion and oxidation. Wood surfaces and outdoor furniture often looked faded and poorly aged rather than naturally weathered. Around several water features and pool areas there were visible mineral deposits, worn surfaces and weak finishing details. Even in the restaurant areas, some doors and materials already looked surprisingly deteriorated. At some point, we stopped noticing the nice lighting and started noticing the maintenance problems instead. The frustrating part is that many of these issues do not feel like unavoidable tropical aging. They feel like the result of poor material choices. The resort simply does not seem to use materials that age particularly well under constant humidity, salt air and heat. And because the resort itself is still relatively young, the current level of wear becomes even harder to ignore. There were also several strange design and execution decisions throughout the property. Around the smaller upper pool area, visible cables and technical elements weakened the atmosphere considerably. Artificial grass in parts of the villa outdoor area looked cheap and completely out of place in a resort trying to present itself as high-end tropical luxury. The bathroom itself was generally fine overall, but again not truly convincing once viewed more closely. One particularly questionable detail was the ceiling fan placement near the changing area. Depending on movement, it was entirely possible to accidentally reach into the running fan blades while changing clothes. That is not charming imperfection — it is simply poor planning. Importantly, none of these issues alone would ruin a holiday. We still enjoyed parts of the stay. The beach is beautiful, the Sky Villa pool is excellent and the staff are genuinely kind. But the accumulation of all these details made it increasingly difficult to view the resort as a true luxury property. And this became especially obvious after also staying at Six Senses Yao Noi during the same trip. Six Senses operates in exactly the same tropical climate, yet materials there generally aged with character and quality. At Devasom, many things already looked prematurely worn and tired. That difference matters. Devasom is not a bad resort. There are clearly good ideas here, and certain aspects of the stay were genuinely enjoyable. But the resort too often undermines itself through weak execution, questionable material choices and inconsistent maintenance standards. Would we return? No. Not because the stay was terrible. It was not. But at these prices — especially in the Sky Villa category — we simply expected a far more convincing level of construction quality, detailing and long-term upkeep. For guests who mainly care about atmosphere, beach walks and a visually attractive setting, Devasom may still work well. But travellers who pay close attention to materials, maintenance and overall execution will likely leave with mixed feelings, just as we did.
