Hotel staff friendly and great pool and beach. Food was terrible though. Most buffet food cold. No description often so didn’t know what it was. Long queues for the fresh cooking stations. I waited 32 minutes for chips one night. Also restaurant manager rude. Restaurant shows opening times but that means you all have to be done eating by 9pm or 10am. He tuts at you and taps his watch. Really not very appropriate. Waiters however very good. Cleaning of our room terrible. If we brought drinks up they never removed the glasses. The towels smelt and no one cleaned our floor once. It had bits all over it. Bed sheets not changed either until the day before we left. Animation team were great. Very friendly. No English there and all entertainment in French so nothing for us. Wouldn’t return to this resort for this reason.

We stayed at Blumar Resort & Spa in June 2026 for 14 nights as a family of four (2 adults and 2 teenage boys). On arrival our rooms weren't ready, and despite pre-booking adjoining rooms, the hotel initially tried to place us several rooms apart from our son who has additional needs. In fairness, this wasn't entirely the hotel's fault as TUI hadn't correctly passed on our special request. Once we spoke to the hotel manager, he resolved everything within an hour and got us into adjoining rooms. It did feel like the rooms had been cleaned in a rush, but we appreciated how quickly the issue was sorted. The hotel itself is okay, but it's certainly not a 4-star hotel by UK standards. I'd describe it as more of a 2-3 star experience. If you arrive with realistic expectations, you'll probably enjoy it more than if you're expecting luxury. The hotel is very French-focused, with relatively few British guests. That wasn't an issue for us, although it's worth remembering that queuing isn't exactly a priority! Rooms The rooms are very basic, clean enough, but extremely dated. The air conditioning barely worked throughout our stay despite us reporting it. In late June, that's a real problem. One room also had patio doors that didn't close properly, so after one torrential downpour we returned from the beach to find the room flooded. The curtains didn't close fully either, so daylight flooded in from around 5am every morning. The fridge is really just a drinks cooler with no freezer compartment, which was fine for keeping bottled water cold. The hairdryer has one setting—very hot! Although the hotel advertises tea and coffee-making facilities, there wasn't a kettle in either room unless requested. The bathroom had a lovely deep bath with reliable hot water throughout our stay, but toiletries weren't replenished during the two weeks. The beds were incredibly hard, and none of the bedding fitted properly, meaning sheets came untucked every night. Combined with ineffective air conditioning, sleeping wasn't particularly comfortable. Fresh towels and bedding were provided daily, although the cleaner didn't seem to do much beyond that. There was plenty of wardrobe space but no drawers. Our safe didn't work initially but reception fixed it quickly. We also woke up twice to find cockroaches in the room. That may be fairly common in Tunisia, but it's certainly not something everyone will be comfortable with. Food & Drinks One thing that surprised us was that smoking and vaping seemed to be allowed almost everywhere, including indoor bar areas, around the pool and on balconies. The all-inclusive food was probably the weakest part of our stay. We always found something to eat, but it was without doubt the most repetitive AI food we've experienced. Lunch and dinner rotated almost the same meals every day—chicken, potatoes, vegetables, pizza and chips. Fresh fruit was always available, and desserts were the usual cakes you'd expect. Breakfast was disappointing. Fresh pastries were lovely, but hot food choices were limited. There was no toaster, cereals weren't great, and while the freshly cooked omelettes were nice, they were very plain with little more than egg and a bit of grated mozzarella. The restaurant staff worked incredibly hard, but it was very busy. Tables were often cleared but not wiped or reset quickly, and food was regularly left on the floor. Flies were also an issue, although that's something that's difficult to avoid in such a hot climate. Drinks were perfectly acceptable. We all enjoyed the local Celtia beer, and the gin and tonics were decent too. We had ice in every drink, ate salads daily and none of us experienced any stomach issues. We ended up eating out a lot because after a few days we'd simply had enough of the all-inclusive menu. Thankfully, eating out in Tunisia is fantastic value. Palma Beach Bar became one of our favourite places for lunch, and we also enjoyed several meals around the marina and Medina. Pools, Entertainment & Animation The animation team deserve a special mention because they worked incredibly hard and were genuinely lovely people. Unfortunately, the entertainment itself was quite disappointing, especially if you're travelling with teenagers. There was one professional act during our fortnight (the fakir show), but every other evening was staff-led entertainment followed by the children's mini disco until around 10pm. The water slides are fine and open for a few hours morning and afternoon, although our boys only used them once. Sunbeds were another issue. At weekends, unless you were out before 9am, you had very little chance of finding one. The hotel also doesn't provide pool towels, despite being all-inclusive, so remember to bring your own or be prepared to buy some locally as we did. There also aren't enough mattresses for the number of loungers, and those available aren't particularly comfortable. Music around the pool is very loud from around 10am onwards, with very little opportunity for a peaceful afternoon. Because of this, we spent much of our holiday on the beach instead. The beach bar isn't part of the hotel or the all-inclusive package, but if you buy drinks or food, you're welcome to use the sunbeds. The staff there were brilliant and we visited regularly. The beach is about a 5-10 minute walk across the main road. The sea was beautifully warm and clear with a gentle slope, making it ideal for children. There was some litter, which sadly seems common in Tunisia, and there were quite a few jellyfish during our stay, so it's worth keeping an eye out. You'll also be approached by beach sellers offering fruit, jewellery, clothing and souvenirs. They're persistent but polite, and a simple "no thank you" was always enough. Outside the Resort Many reviews complain about the area around the hotel being dirty or run down, and yes, there is litter and the occasional unpleasant smell. However, it's important to remember you're visiting a developing country where many local people have very little. If you're prepared to explore beyond the tourist areas, you'll discover the real Tunisia—a country full of colour, history, bustling markets, incredible food, amazing spices and some of the warmest, most welcoming people we've met anywhere in the world. We're fortunate enough to travel a lot, and Tunisian hospitality genuinely stands out. Overall For the price we paid, we got exactly what we expected—a budget sunshine holiday. Could we have paid more for a better hotel? Absolutely. Would I recommend Blumar? If you're looking for a cheap break and keep your expectations realistic, then yes, you'll probably have a good time. Would we return to Blumar? Probably not, but that's mainly because we rarely visit the same hotel twice. Would we return to Tunisia? Without a second's hesitation... absolutely. It's a beautiful country with wonderful people, and we'd happily come back again.
