“An experience worthy of a mention”

The hotel is impressive on arrival, the room was a little tired looking but fine - a bathroom light was out, spoke to Guest relations and it was fixed immediately. The pool area clean and tidy, the salt water pool emptied and power washed twice while we were there - cleaning round the pool area too… more

The hotel is impressive on arrival, the room was a little tired looking but fine - a bathroom light was out, spoke to Guest relations and it was fixed immediately. The pool area clean and tidy, the salt water pool emptied and power washed twice while we were there - cleaning round the pool area took place before any guests were up - we only know this because we were awake early one morning and sat on the balcony and witnessed how hard the pool maintenance staff worked. There was building work taking place while we were there but this didn’t impact our stay, the Spa was also closed for refurbishment. The food was lovely, with so much choice. We stayed B&B and although we tried to upgrade to all inclusive, when we arrived, we were eventually told ‘no’ after toing and froing with the holiday company and the hotel - so beware of that! We ate lunch and dinner a few times at the hotel and paid roughly £25 each. We ate at the Japanese restaurant, which was great, the show was really good! We also ate at the Italian, which was equally as nice. The staff at the hotel work tirelessly and couldn’t do enough for us - tipping is beyond at this hotel! Sun loungers, dining tables, drinks…I’m not sure if this is the norm, but there appeared to be a lot of staging of tables/sun loungers etc. making it look like people were already sitting at tables/on sun loungers but the minute we asked for a table/sun lounger tralala, there was one there for us…yes we did tip. We quickly jumped on the tipping bandwagon as we felt this was the norm. Some staff seemed to prefer us paying for our drinks with cash rather than card too. Beware outside the hotel for scammers pretending to work at the hotel and offering to show you round Medina, twice we had individuals coming over to us claiming to work as a waiter and security at the hotel! Even a taxi driver was involved in the scam! He was parked across from the hotel and dropped us in Médina, as soon as we got out of the taxi a guy came over claiming to know us because he was security at the Movenpick! Before we knew it we were sat in a jewellery shop - it got very uncomfortable when we tried to leave! Médina is worth a visit, but like most shopping areas there’s the constant noise of ‘come into my shop, look at my stuff…’ I’ve been to many countries were this happens, so I’m used to it, but it does get beyond annoying when you daren’t look at anything. We only ate out a couple of times at night during our stay because it was so hot! The Farmers Steakhouse is literally 100 meters away from the hotel and the food was wow - half the price of the hotel too! We visited the Mall in Sousse which has all the usual stores and some I’ve never heard of, prices appeared to be similar to the UK, food and drink prices were very cheap here! The Marina is well worth a visit, again food here was cheaper than the hotel, and just as nice. Taxis are everywhere and again you need to be on your guard because some try to double the price, make sure to agree a price before you get in! Medina was 10 dinars! There was very little advice given to us at the hotel, we spoke to some people who were staying at a neighbouring hotel and they’d been given a lot of information including a taxi app, trips etc. we received no information about anything. I asked concierge one day if there were any trips and he just handed me a book and walked off. All in all, we had a great time but if I’m honest I got tired of the bartering and some people trying to rip us off! One last thing, spend your dinars before you get to the airport because you can’t take it out of the country!

“Sousse is very overrated to my opinion..!!”

Location is ok on the one part of the one way system which means driving have to come round. The ambient of the hotel is nice elegant and comfortable and the staff are friendly. Shout out to adel at concierge. Rooms are ok not wow very dated needs and update specially the mini bar the temp is poor.… more

Shout out to adel at concierge. Rooms are ok not wow very dated needs and update specially the mini bar the temp is poor. I would say value for money for the entire property has that wow factor and located in the beach at a busy location. Cleanliness is next level super squeaky clean. I was very surprised did not witness any noise issues whatsoever. Amenities could be better more excursions desks for travellers. But the hotel to seemed more catered for the locals rather than international. I opted for the bed and breakfast and the breakfast was pretty repulsive same every morning. And ate out every evening which skipped lunch. The only major issues I witnessed was the taxi’s 🚕. They are the biggest scammers of this wonderful country. Firstly tacky old small cars no bigger cars available. Do not care about the meter system. And prices are ridiculously repulsive and take us the tourists for granted. But the major problem is availability is non existent you will wait for long to hail one of your lucky that is. But overall I think Sousse is a bit overrated to my opinion.

Why do people choose a 5-star hotel and pay a premium price? The answer is simple: to experience a noticeable difference in service, comfort, and attention to detail compared to a 3- or 4-star hotel. Unfortunately, that difference was missing during our stay at Mövenpick Sousse. To start with the positives, the building itself is beautiful. The architecture is elegant, the pool is large and impressive, and the property has all the ingredients of a true luxury hotel. However, it quickly became clear that the hotel is being managed with a 3-star mindset. Several of the pool sun loungers were filthy and looked as though they hadn’t been properly cleaned in a long time. Small details like this matter in a hotel that markets itself as a luxury destination. The biggest disappointment was the dinner service. While ordering water, the waiter politely asked, “Sir, would you like anything else with your water?” Naturally, given that we were staying in a 5-star hotel, we assumed this was part of the standard dinner service, as it has been in every other 5-star hotel we’ve visited. To our surprise, after we finished dinner, the waiter came to our table asking for immediate payment of 15 Tunisian dinars. I asked him to simply charge it to our room, which is common practice in hotels of this category. His response was, “No, I need to collect it now.” It was honestly embarrassing to be asked to pay on the spot in the middle of the restaurant, and fortunately my wife happened to have enough cash in her purse. Had she not, the situation would have been even more uncomfortable. That single experience completely changed our mindset. We had originally planned to spend our evenings enjoying drinks and shisha at the hotel, but after this incident we chose not to spend another dinar there. Instead, we went to a nearby shisha café every night. In virtually every 5-star hotel we’ve stayed at, water and soft drinks are included as part of the lunch and dinner experience, or at the very least can be conveniently charged to the room. This was the first time we encountered such an inflexible and awkward policy. I want to emphasize that this is not a criticism of the restaurant staff. On the contrary, they were doing their absolute best. Despite long queues—clearly caused by insufficient investment and staffing—they remained professional, friendly, and always smiling. They deserve recognition. Our room was another disappointment. The air conditioning struggled continuously. At night, the room temperature barely dropped below 25°C, while during the day it stayed between 27°C and 28°C, making it difficult to sleep comfortably during the summer. The television was also outdated and not even a Smart TV, something that has become standard in most hotels of this category. As we were travelling with a baby and a stroller, the elevator situation was also frustrating. One of the main elevators was out of service for most of our stay, leaving guests with long waiting times until the remaining elevator arrived with enough space. When you put all these issues together, it creates the impression that management’s primary objective is minimising costs and maximizing profits rather than delivering the seamless luxury experience guests expect when booking a Mövenpick hotel. This property has tremendous potential thanks to its location and beautiful infrastructure, but luxury is defined by service, maintenance, and guest experience—not just by architecture. I sincerely hope the Accor Group takes a closer look at how this hotel is being managed, because it deserves leadership that matches the quality of the building itself.
