“Lovely hotel”

Stayed for a week with my granddaughter at the Gunes Hotel in Çalis Turkey on a bed & breakfast basis. There was an amazing variety of food for breakfast which was really good. Lovely hotel & the pool very clean. Staff very welcoming. The room was a really good size & with fridge TV & complimentary toiletries. We had a room overlooking the pool on the ground floor which was great. No stairs to climb! Located right on the beachfront straight out onto the boardwalk. I will certainly be staying there again

“Good location”

I stayed in this hotel for a week in September. Our room was 201 on the ground floor, with others in the group in 402 and 406 on the second floor. I stayed in this hotel for a week in September. Our room was 201 on the ground floor, with others in the group in 402 and 406 on the second floor. These rooms are in the main block, all with balconies facing the pool area. First, the positives. The location of the hotel is fantastic, straight out onto the prom and beach from the bar and pool area. There are lots of places to eat close by and it is not far to walk to the main shopping street. The staff in the hotel were all friendly. The reception staff were always on hand to help, one of the beds in the room broke and a replacement was arranged swiftly. The bar and breakfast area is well looked after. Good selection of drinks at the bar and breakfast was nice. It is not a big selection, but it was enough and something for everyone. The eggs station was a nice touch. Now the less positive. As others have mentioned, decor and cleanliness is hit and miss. I would say that the rooms that other people in our group stayed in were cleaned to a better standard than the room I stayed in. I don't think the balcony was swept the time that we were there. The bathroom was also looking tired, the shower in particular was not great. It didn't look like it had been well finished, grout was dirty and the shower itself wasn't great. It didn't really fit into the wall mount. It looks like the living areas have been recently re decorated, so hopefully bathrooms will be next. The next is the sun bed situation. There is a real culture of basically reserving sunbeds for the entire duration of the trip. People were literally leaving towels on their sunbeds as soon as they arrived and not moving them until they left, and there were daggers if someone new had the audacity to reserve a regulars sunbed! I also saw one group sitting on stacked sunbeds and cushions which I thought was rude to be taking up sunbeds unnecessarily. As a result it didn't feel particularly welcoming area and the sunbeds weren't being washed down. Although you can't change people's behaviours, there are things that could be done to prevent this, such as staff being pro active in removing towels or clearing sunbeds away at the end of the day, but the hotel seemed reluctant to do this, probably for fear of upsetting the regulars. May the odds be in your favour if you are looking for a sunbed when the hotel is at full capacity. Whilst the cats and kittens are cute, there are a lot of them around, too many I'd say. Not a hotel if you aren't a cat lover or are allergic to them. There were some sunbeds that remained vacant because there was a strong smell of cat wee as the cats used the surrounding flower beds as their litter trays. This also meant that there was an unpleasant smell on around ground floor balconies where the cats have been and I didn't like to sit with the balcony door open in case the cats came into the room Other things to note are that the pool bar is cash only. Safety deposit boxes aren't in rooms but there are plenty available to hire in reception. I was expecting to have to pay for the fridge, however we did not have to as it was on and available in the room. There is no lift and there are lots of steps to rooms and around the pool/bar area, so not the best for accessibility. Take mosquito spray, was bitten quite a lot and I think this was from being out on the ground floor balcony. Overall, we had a great holiday and would visit Calis Beach again, but I am not sure that I would stay in the hotel again, unless I could be guaranteed a room on a higher floor and the hotel could improve their cleaning standards.
