This is a special hotel, which we stayed at 3 to 4 times. Consistent high-quality service, an amenity, and a fantastic location. The rooms are complex, high-end amenities, and we had a Canal view, which is always special and after them.

The Ambassade is located near the center of Amsterdam and is within walking distance to a number of attractions and restaurants. We stayed here for four nights in a comfortable room. Staff was friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

I last stayed here in May 2000 on a family trip to Amsterdam, and I was really looking forward to coming back since it was my first boutique hotel experience. Somehow, it managed to be even better than I remembered. The charm, history, and overall feel of the place really stood out this time around. Since there were three of us, we booked a Superior Duplex room and got Room 11, which is a bit unique. You enter from a small hallway off the front stoop on the Herengracht canal, and the huge two-story windows give you a great canal view right away. We were also greeted with a chilled bottle of Cava, which felt like a very nice welcome. The downstairs had a cozy living area connected to the bathroom, and a steep spiral staircase led up to the sleeping loft. Upstairs had plenty of storage, along with the minibar and safe. The king bed plus a single converted from a chaise worked perfectly, especially since my mother-in-law could get up early and head downstairs without waking us. The room was very clean, and the bed and linens were soft and comfortable, which made it easy to sleep well every night. Breakfast was included and had a solid spread of yogurt, muesli, breads, meats, and cheeses. There was also a self-serve mimosa bar, which is a pretty fun way to start the day. You could also order hot items like omelets, eggs benedict, and crepes, all included. We ended up spending a good amount of time in the Library bar too, and it quickly became a favorite spot for snacks and evening drinks. The service was great, and everything we tried was genuinely good. The hotel sits on a quieter canal, so noise was not much of an issue, although we did catch a bit of street noise on our last night with King’s Day starting up. It is still very conveniently located and gives you a nice sense of the city’s history. The decor fits the setting well, though a few furnishings felt a little worn. It sounds like they are in the process of updating rooms, which should only make things better. Overall, it is a really solid stay with tons of character and a lot of history behind it. It posed a good value for three people with the amenities received, and is definitely a place I would come back to again.

“Don’t stay not worth it”

Furniture was falling apart. Curtains were very dusty. The room smelled of cigarette smoke. The restaurant staff were terrible towards tourists.
