“Great location and staff”

I stayed here the first 2 nights of my trip and later decided to spend the last 2 nights as well. I was very happy with the location in San Telmo and spent plenty of time just wandering the streets. There were also many small restaurants that had that local atmosphere. The rooms were a bit on the small side but totally ok. What I mostly liked was that they were clean and quiet but stay away from the front room on the street. My bathroom was pretty small and there was no soap dish in the shower. All the staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good but cost an extra $4-5.

10-12/1/19 We three middle aged British guys are in BA for over a week as one of us had a dental emergency and travelling out of BA became very expensive coming up to the weekend (be warned!). As a result we wanted a change of hotel and area scene from Parada H (and previously Tucuman Palace H). We found BBAH was the best option for us (researching online for half an hour) after checking out of PH (at 10:00) and phoned ahead (10:30) using Whatsapp (as they have a dedicated WA/wsp number which is free using my Movistar SIM). The friendly receptionist said that we could leave our bags in their reception whilst we wandered around town even though checkin was at 13:00. As our dentally impaired friend pulled his back too (not a good start to a whole month in Arg) we ordered a taxi at PH reception which arrived at 11 and within fifteen minutes (and 100p (£2) we were in the BBAH lobby being warmly greeted by the receptionist who spoke good English. We put our bags behind the reception and took the comfy seats in the lobby to log on to their (best so far) wifi. She recommended El Federal a couple of blocks away to have lunch in (I checked it on TA and it tallies). Within a few minutes of relaxing she told us the room was actually ready but no towels were supplied yet. That suited us fine, so up to room 107 we went, via the lift to save more back injury! The corridor and lobby were decorated with large real modern paintings, all very interesting! The room was right next to the lift door which was a bit ominous. Into a lobby area with the bathroom at the end and two rooms to the left curving round the lift. The two rooms had two quite firm single beds each (my back problem friend found too narrow), and a large window in each looking onto a small courtyard. Each window had net curtains and proper curtains that actually kept the light out. It would hopefully be a quiet night away from the road, albeit next to the lift. On our first night it was quiet Facilities included a 32 inch wall mounted LED TV, medium size fridge, three bedside tables, three large wardrobes (with five coathangers, better than usual), a desk (with electric point high above), three bedside lamps (all working), an A/C unit (in each room!), and a working telephone to reception (0). The room was supplied with a reasonable strength 5G signal wifi which averaged around 21MBips download (not quite our 200MBips in our London home) which was fine, with the odd dropout which seems the norm (I used my SIM to compensate - main Claro network shops have best and easiest deal for tourists, done on the spot). There was, however, a distinct lack of electrical sockets for charging devices. The shower room was the best we had seen so far, with a glass panelled (unfortunately cracked and very expensive to replace) shower unit with a sunken platform draining into its own gulley in the shower itself so not flooding the whole of the room (at last). A hand towel was hung up and one hook was available (the only one in the rooms) and there was just one bin under the sink. Shower pressure was very good, although fiddling to get the temperature whilst under the water jet is tricky as knobs loose or a sticking washer. A tap in the bottom corner falls off regularly. Two holes with rawl plugs show where a soap tray were. The sink tap is effective and one can jet out a razor easily. A bright light (the only one in the showerroom) above the sink mirror made shaving easy. A modern huge hair dryer was by the sink as well as the usual (not EU standard?) electric point. The glass door tended to slam and when I went into the shower-room to wash (in the dark as did not want to wake myself up) I bumped into the glass corner heavily. This is probably how the crack occurred before as no closing dampers were fitted. On arrival it was obvious that the toilet had an internal leak which was wasting water and noisy (despite the double door between the showerroom and bedroom), I notified reception and it was fixed within a couple of hours saving them money and the environment. As seasoned travellers we tend to wash clothes on the go in the hotels so using my own plug we were able to do this in the sink, ring out and hang them on the (only five) hangers, hanging off doors or TV cables as no hooks anywhere except the steamy showerroom (with no extraction fan). The general heat and occasional use of the A/C helped dry things out. The doors are noisy to shut when leaving (not good at night for neighbours) so it is best to use the key to withdraw the latch so closing quietly. The key only works one way round and needs a bit of jiggling and lifting the handle to open so beware (room 107). No smoke detectors or sprinklers were seen but there were evacuation plans in relevant places (central stairwell is the only way out) and emergency lighting is on each landing of the stairwell. The fridge was very useful but had to be turned off at night as constantly humming away in the heat. Breakfast (7-10 officially) was the best we have had so far with a choice of savoury and sweet. On offer was a cheese&ham pizza (reheat in microwave with paper napkin over to prevent spluttering and exploding). The next (Saturday) morning there was less choice so it must depend on the day before. As we are up quite late we tend to wake late and manage to slip into Breakfast around 9:15. The pleasant high (mile a minute and jasmine) covered walled garden is nice to eat in until a few smokers arrive. You are not rushed out by the chef (who can fry or scramble an egg for you at no cost although he asked for a room number) and food and coffee were still available till 11. After people have gone it is nice to use their (generally good) wifi to catch up in the cool garden. On the Sunday morning the hotel was busy and the two overworked staff could not keep up with the demand. The arrangement of the room was not condusive to efficient serving and replenishing. It did not help that it was pouring down outside so everyone was cramped into the room. The toilets by the breakfast room were kept very clean. The hard working housekeeping staff were seen most of the day. I could not see any signs of recycling anywhere, considering this is a medium size hotel, so maybe this would be a good option to win back that Certificate of Excellence certificate from 2013 that they display in the foyer? We ended up staying three nights (booking consecutive mornings at reception at the same rate as the internet) as it was most comfortable and convenient in our situation (flying out to Comodore Rivadavia very late on Sunday). The receptionist was happy to let us have the same room as it reduced their workload and we only needed the shampoo sachets topped up. We manage with a towel each for three nights as are eco-friendly when we can be. After checking out the friendly receptionist let s store our bags in the office whilst we visited friends. They ware very helpful too, helping us find a bus route to the airport Jorge Newbery via Ave de Mayo (46 bus stop at Indepencia crossroads).

“Great Hotel in Perfect Location”

This place ticked all the boxes for us. Helpful staff, nice clean rooms, and a wonderful location from which to explore this fascinating area of the city. Sadly we never saw the breakfast due to early airport departure, but it smelt great!

“Good price for great location”

Nice basic clean room, basic breakfast of breads, ham, cheese fruit, cereal, yogurt. Staff will arrange transport, laundry. This totally suited our needs at a good price. San Telmo is a charming area with access to all sorts of restaurants museums sights...great if you are willing to walk.
