“Great hospitality for a large group booking”

I stayed for 5 nights as with 40+ fellow travellers, all retirees. My room was large, clean and very comfortable. The bed was excellent. I slept well. The room had a small frig, microwave oven, electric kettle and toaster. Tea bags, coffee sachets, sugar and fresh milk were provided and refreshed daily. The room was air conditioned but I could turn it on/off as I needed. There was a reasonably large TV though I did not use it. The motel provided fee wifi. The bathroom was roomy enough although the shower was over the bath. This is a pet hate of mine!! At my age, showers in such positions invite a fall. This bathroom did have a supporting bar on the wall but I still felt some risk in getting in and out of the shower. (NB: This is really just an issue for those of us who, through age or otherwise, have some issues with flexibility. ) Our booking included full breakfast. This was excellent. There was a range of cereals, milks, yoghurts, fresh fruit, croissant and other pastries, breads (and toasters), orange and apple juices, poached and scrambled eggs, bacon, chipolatas, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes and hash browns. Breakfast was an all-you-can-eat buffet. The highlight of this property for me though was the performance of the management and staff. They were brilliant. They looked after our group so very well, even moving breakfast forward to 0630 on our last morning because we needed an early departure. We ate at the resort on most nights and the evening staff were just as attentive and professional as those on morning shift. The owners were present every day and demonstrated daily their commitment to making our stay memorable. Even in providing mass catering, our evening meals had two choices of both main course and dessert. All of my choices were good to very good, even given the demands of serving 40+ people almost all at once. Standout dishes for me were the smoke salmon linguine (chock full of salmon) and pannacotta. I realise large group booking put considerable demands on motels. Ballina Byrin Islander met our group's requirements wonderfully well.

I have been staying at Ballina Byron Islander resort for a number of years whenever I am travelling through Ballina. I have always found management and staff to be most welcoming going out of their way to ensure that my stay is as pleasant as possible. The rooms are of a generous size, immaculately presented with very comfortable beds. Meals are also well worth ordering when the restaurant is open. I highly recommend this motel for the discerning traveler.

“Not impressed”

Front desk person unfriendly and barely helpful didn’t even look at us. No smile. No welcome. No talk. Thought it was just us maybe but our brother also got the same treatment. Front desk person unfriendly and barely helpful didn’t even look at us. No smile. No welcome. No talk. Thought it was just us maybe but our brother also got the same treatment. The shower pressure was lousy and the last day - no water at all. Resort?? A joke more. BUT it was clean. The bed was comfy. Brekky was ok. Nearly $200 a night was a bit much TBH but we could have forgiven it all with someone who could treat us decently. She should retire if she doesn’t like people. We won’t come again.
