I am so glad that despite the many negative reviews that I read, I decided to stay at the Sheraton Mirage. My room was updated and spacious. The bathroom was well appointed. The swimming pools were nice. Majority of staff was quite helpful. Karen at the front desk was great! Transportation to Port Douglas city center is fast and easy with paid shuttle - quite convenient! I didn’t eat breakfast on property, but had a nice dinner once. I enjoyed the hotel and I had a pleasant stay with one or two exceptions… The girl who serviced my room daily needed some more training. The smoke alarms went off during my stay twice. The lack of communication of staff with guests regarding an all clear etc was inexcusable. This happened at about 1:30am! Guests were in hallway trying to figure out what to do with zero staff around. Hotel phone lines get cut when alarms go off. The next morning the alarms went off again…..same circumstances! They rang both times for quite a while. Those instances, I am, sure are outliers. If you have mobility issues, please know that there are stairs around the property that you will probably have to endure. The Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas is a huge resort property in a wonderful location. I am very glad that I chose this property for my stay in Port Douglas!

During our trip to Australia, we spent three nights in Port Douglas, which served as our base for exploring the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Early April, when we visited, may not be the best time to come to this region, as we experienced frequent torrential tropical rain, which limited some of our activities. We chose the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort for our stay. This was undoubtedly a luxurious property in its early days, but it now shows signs of ageing and is in need of renovation. The resort is surrounded by a fabulous, lush, and well-maintained garden. It is located by the Coral Sea and features a tropical beach. There are no sun loungers, nor are they necessary, as it is very dangerous to enter the sea due to the presence of crocodiles, sharks, and jellyfish. One of the resort’s distinctive features is that all its buildings are surrounded by an artificial lagoon, with ground-floor rooms offering direct access to the water from their balconies. Unfortunately, the lagoon lining has several ruptures, and to prevent it from inflating with infiltrated water, suction pumps are placed in various locations… a clear sign that the property is in need of refurbishment. There are also small artificial beach spots around the lagoon. The resort has spacious common areas with appealing design, several restaurants, and leisure facilities, such as a snooker area. Check-in was handled in a courteous manner at a desk dedicated to Marriott Bonvoy members. We were given all the necessary information, recognised as Titanium members, upgraded to a Studio with direct lagoon access (#2114), and offered a voucher to use a cabana for one day. Upon arrival in the room, there was a bottle of sparkling wine and a fruit plate as a welcome gift—a nice touch. The room was spacious, the king bed comfortable, and the air conditioning worked properly. There was also a ceiling fan. The bathroom was large, with double sinks and a spacious shower. The bathroom amenities were complete. In the room, water and coffee were complimentary. Water refills were done by guests, who could fill their own bottles at stations located along the corridors. Our room’s balcony had steps leading directly into the lagoon. It is a pity that the lagoon was not heated. It was also unfortunate that the balcony shutters did not function properly, nor did the bathroom blinds. Housekeeping service was inconsistent; on one evening, even after requesting it, we did not receive turndown service. They attempted to compensate us with an amenity in the room. The breakfast buffet at Feast restaurant was varied and of good quality, with friendly service, although sometimes a bit slow. We had dinner at both Lagoon House and Harrisons, where the service was attentive and the food satisfactory. We also had drinks and snacks at the Daintree Bar. Here, the service was somewhat disorganised, and one of the pizzas we ordered was incorrect… after waiting 30 minutes, we had no choice but to eat it. There are also happy hour periods worth taking advantage of. In conclusion, this is a pleasant place for those looking to relax in a tropical setting and/or explore the region’s tourist attractions. Additionally, Bonvoy members are recognised and well treated here.

Disappointing for multiple reasons. Arrived with rain and storms predicted for the duration of my stay. Hotel not responsible for weather but they provide nothing for guests during bad weather when beach, pool not available. In room TV consists of news cable channels and kids shows. NO movie opt… more

Disappointing for multiple reasons. Arrived with rain and storms predicted for the duration of my stay. Hotel not responsible for weather but they provide nothing for guests during bad weather when beach, pool not available. In room TV consists of news cable channels and kids shows. NO movie options, no streaming options. No form of entertainment in the bars either. Aldo treated badly as a solo traveler at dinner. Seated alone on upper level of restaurant then ignored once food was delivered. Had view of empty tables. Others seated below had view of pools at night. Mgr that night not interested in talking to me. At check out the charge for that dinner was removed from the bill at least. Hired is not walking distance to anything and doesn't even have a sundries shop making it necessary to travel into town for supplies.
