As I have stated in previous reviews, one can gauge the quality of an establishment through the initial contact with the owner, manager or reservation team and again I was not disappointed. All email queries were responded to quickly and even before we departed for Clare, I had that sense that I was going there to meet a friend, rather than someone I had never met before. Arriving on a cold and miserably afternoon we were welcomed by the owner Stephen and the "dog" and given a short tour of the farm and then settled into our warm room. After staying two nights, the question that comes immediately to mind is: why would one even consider staying in the many “motel” rooms that abound the Clare Valley when you have this charming location to enjoy? What’s to like? The quirky style and furniture of the room, the spaciousness, the en-suite bathroom (yes – the shower curtains are too short and water spills onto the floor – guaranteed to be addressed by Stephen) but above all, waking up in the morning to see a floating haze, punctured by the rays of the sun piercing through to illuminate the vineyard. Simply dazzling! We chose the option of cooking our own breakfast at leisure, in the communal dining room downstairs using the provisions supplied. Everything on hand one could possibly wish for a hearty breakfast and the locally sourced sausages were simply outstanding. Who can forget the delightful "dog" – a pine-chewing canine who placed a cone outside the door then sat patiently looking at us until we threw it for him to catch and return. We recommended this establishment to our friends and on their return, they echoed the very sentiments I expressed above. A quiet “retreat” in one of the most beautiful parts of the Clare Valley. Highly recommended.

“Amazing getaway”

To be greeted by Stephen and Caroline and their wonderful dogs was just the beginning of the delightful stay. Loved the extra little touches in the room. To be greeted by Stephen and Caroline and their wonderful dogs was just the beginning of the delightful stay. Loved the extra little touches in the room. The breakfast each morning was lovely along with the change on the menu and choices. Stephen and Caroline couldn't do more to make the stay a pleasurable one. The only let down was the hard mattress. Loved the stay and if I am ever back in Clare this wil be my first choice for accommodation!

Patly's Hill Farm is a great BnB just out of Clare and in a perfect place to base a weekend exploring the attractions of the Valley. We stayed 3 nights and visited Burra, Port Broughton, Martindale Hall and a selection of wineries. Patly's Hill farm is a quiet retreat with a modern feel and good amenities. It was clean and Stephen and Caroline were welcoming, friendly hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were great with fresh coffee and a daily changing menu which included gourmet sausages, delicious mushrooms, tomatoes and the traditional eggs and bacon. Yes, the marmalade is delicious. Breakfast is hosted in a communal lounge and dining area and it was good to be able to chat to other guests about their experiences in the Clare Valley. Our room (Blue Room) was one of two (upstairs) in a modern, purpose built building that featured corrugated iron styled furniture. The room was spacious with a lounge, huge bed, dining table and small kitchen. The shower facilities were good. The views to the east were attractive and we enjoyed sipping champagne on the balcony. The room had a nice feel to it, with large rugs, tasteful paintings and the modern design of the room with pitched roof gave it a welcoming, barn-like conversion immediacy. Renovations were underway downstairs to provide a fully fledged kitchen which I understand is planned to be available to guests. The weekend was the hottest weekend in October experienced in a few decades, with temperatures topping out to 35. Not the blistering heat of mid summer, but the aircon was welcomed, effective and very quiet. Overall, a great retreat with excellent amenities, just a short drive from Clare, surrounded by vineyards and run by great hosts.
