Great location away from the go-to-spot of Coles Bay (which is lovely), the view is spectacular and the dinning is fantastic.

“Amazing Views, Unfortunately Not Matched by the Experience!”

Our recent three-night stay at Freycinet Resort and Residences left us feeling disappointed, particularly given the price point and the way the property is marketed as a retreat experience. Firstly, there is no denying that the location itself is beautiful. The surrounding environment is stunning and certainly one of the highlights of staying here. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself did not reflect the premium price charged. The cabin felt dated and lacked some basic comforts and finishing touches that you would expect for this level of accommodation. The kitchen facilities were also poorly equipped. Simple items such as cereal bowls were missing, there was limited crockery available, and overall it was difficult to comfortably prepare and enjoy breakfast within the lodge itself. The restaurant experience was unfortunately the most disappointing aspect of our stay. We had booked dinner for our first evening and were surprised to discover only when the Japanese set meal arrived that it was not suitable for those with coeliac dietary requirements. After asking which components were gluten free, we were advised only two items, the eggplant and mackerel fillet, could be eaten. Given everything was served together on the same tray, concerns regarding cross contamination were raised and the meal was taken away. No alternative options were offered and I was left unable to eat dinner, ultimately returning to the cabin hungry. More disappointing was still being charged over $60 for a meal that could not be eaten. For accommodation promoting a dining experience, this was particularly poor. Breakfast options for those with dietary requirements were also limited and lacked thoughtful alternatives. We also experienced ongoing issues with Wi-Fi during our stay. When we raised this with staff, we were abruptly told to “give it five minutes so it can be rebooted.” Unfortunately, the service still did not return properly afterwards. Given mobile coverage in the area is limited, reliable Wi-Fi becomes more important, not less. Finally, the cabins are positioned extremely close together. Throughout much of one evening, neighbouring guests sat outside playing music and talking loudly, to the point where conversations could clearly be heard from inside our cabin. This detracted significantly from the quiet retreat atmosphere that is heavily marketed. Overall, whilst the scenery is beautiful, the accommodation, dining experience, facilities, and overall guest experience did not align with the premium pricing. With some improvements this could be a wonderful place to stay, but unfortunately our experience did not reflect the expectations created by both the marketing and the cost.
