We have stayed at the Hotel Grand Chancellor many times over the years and this particular visit was one of our best yet. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, professional, and genuinely attentive. Nothing was too much trouble, and their friendly service made us feel like valued guests rather than just another room number. The food was also excellent, the breakfasts were fresh and delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed dinner in the restaurant one evening. Beautifully presented, generous portions, and full of flavour. It really completed the experience. However, the absolute highlight of our stay was the live violin and piano duo on Friday evening. The music was simply magical. It created such a warm, refined, and elegant atmosphere that perfectly complemented the beautiful heritage feel of the hotel. Several other guests we spoke with commented on how much they enjoyed it too. The checkout process on Sunday morning ran smoothly as always, but the lobby did feel a little quieter compared to the lively Friday evening. We couldn’t help thinking how wonderful it would be if the duo could play on Sunday mornings as well and maybe even Monday mornings too. That gentle live music would make those final moments of the stay feel just as special as the arrival and would be the perfect soundtrack while guests are having that last coffee or waiting for their transport. Thank you to the entire team for another memorable stay. The combination of lovely staff, great food, and that beautiful live music truly sets the Grand Chancellor apart. I recently stayed at this hotel and had a very pleasant experience overall. The reception staff were friendly, and both check-in and check-out were quick and simple. The room was clean, comfortable, and well maintained. I only have a small suggestion for improvement — it would be great if complimentary water bottles and slippers for the bathroom were provided in the room. The breakfast was amazing with very nice food and excellent service. All staff members were great, including the chef at the live omelette counter. A special thank you to Beck from the service team. She was very helpful, friendly, and professional throughout our stay. She truly provided personalised service for us, which made our experience even more special. Her hospitality was really fantastic. Thank you to the whole team for a wonderful stay.

Stayed for 3 nights Friday to Monday in superior harbour view which we booked direct via hotel website. Pros: - location was good - bed and pillows very comfortable - Gym was well equipped - shower water pressure was great - block out curtains great - self serve laundry was very handy- and was able to get coins from reception for this. $4 for a wash cycle and another $4 for dry cycle. - Underground parking available ($25 per day) Cons: - even though our room was on level 17- noise from the street could still be heard for louder vehicles and motorbikes and sirens at times - woken every morning by doors closing. It’s impossible to close the hotel doors quietly so whe people leaving early this was waking us up. - one day we had “do not disturb” on door so housekeeping popped a note under door to arrange a service. About 15 mins later when leaving our room, housekeeping was there and I asked if our room could be serviced please and showed the note (which I assume he left) and he said I still had to go to reception as “I had a schedule to follow”. I went and arranged at reception. Lastly, we didnt have any plan or accommodation for our last 2 nights in Tasmania and agreed given rain was coming, we should stay where we’re at Grand Chancellor for convenience in same room. We went to reception to enquire on extending our stay and what the rate would be, only to be told we couldn’t stay in our existing room and would need to check out and be “bumped down” to another room type as the existing room type was booked out. That was a surprise to us given we had a look online beforehand and even the next morning and it showed the same room category available to be booked for our dates??? Given we were going to have to check out anyway we decided to stay somewhere else instead. Would’ve thought the hotel would’ve tried harder to keep rooms full.

Stayed here as we were out in town for our anniversary. It's the 4th time I have stayed and this time we took a harbour view room. Convenient location though the driving around the block to park is a bit annoying. Reception staff were lovely but when we decided to go to the Atrium for afternoon tea, the girl on duty ignored the fact that we were standing at the counter and didn't acknowledge us. She wasn't busy so I'm not sure why she was so unwelcoming. After dinner, we returned to the Atrium for a nightcap. The young man on duty couldn't have been less interested in attending to us if he tried. These people aren't just there to look after customers but are there to sell so they're not doing their job very well. These unfriendly encounters put a damper on your experience and I wouldn't stay there again as there is plenty of choice in town. The harbour view room was much noisier than the city view rooms too. I did give this feedback to the hotel as they contacted me after my stay. To be fair, the manager contacted me as a result of this but I didn't get back to him. I just know, I won't stay there again.
