This is a pub in a small town but it punches well above its weight with a menu that you will get excited about. It also has an old fashion dining room (great to see that this type of dining room still around) its high ceilings and open space gives plenty of room. The menu features some pub meals and some other types of meals but I can tell you if you order a meal you wont finish it as the serving size will stop most people. My wife and I went with friends who have just moved to that part of Tasmania and non of us had been to this pub before (not quiet true my wife had been to assess an insurance claim but not to eat). The menu gives you wines suggestions with each meal which can be good for some people if they don't understand what to drink with what . Now for food my friend and I had the small roast of the day which we both had a problem eating as there was so much. My other friend had an Asian vegetable noodle dish which she enjoyed but again could not finish and my wife had a vegetarian parcel which she could not finish. We all stated that the meals were great and gee I am glad I did not order steak, chips and salad as I saw one go past HUGE. If you are visiting Latrobe then we recommend this hotel for lunch and then a walk along the street to look in the shops afterwards to help the meal go down. The day were were there the place was very busy and we were told to expect a delay well if there was delay we did not know about it as our meals arrived quickly, hot and delicious with vegetables still crisp and not over cooked. Will we go back you bet we WILL.

We ate here tonight and only ordered main course which was more than enough to satisfy. Hubby had scotch fillet medium with pepper sauce and chips and salad and was very pleased. The steak was cooked well and the sauce was yummy. I had the filo parcel with chicken prawns and scallops with a hollandaise sauce and vegetables. It was lovely. Only thing I didn’t enjoy was the chat potatoes were served in a sweet chilli sauce which did not compliment the dish.

“VALUE COUNTER MEALS”

A nice relaxed restaurant area, good service, nice meals selection, economy priced, an ideal place to meet up with friends or family, we would certainly visit again. Latrobe is a lovely town with lots of attractions and is proving more popular.

My wife and I often dine at the Lucas for evening meals, enjoying good old fashioned pub service in a nicely appointed historic building. Their generous meals are sometimes challenging even for those with an appetite. The staff are very friendly and attentive.
