The overall architecture is stunning! Walking in the front makes you feel almost famous! We were in twin share room which was perfect for our three day stay! Everyone was so friendly and staff accommodated any needs we had!

My wife and I have just returned from a 20-day holiday in Australia, during which we stayed at this hotel on three separate occasions. We checked out to travel north, returned and checked back in, then repeated the process when travelling south. On every occasion, the check-in and check-out procedures were seamless and efficient. We hired a car during our stay, and while parking was extremely expensive, this is more reflective of local charges than the hotel itself. The car park is conveniently located directly opposite on Essex Street. The hotel itself is showing its age—I remember it from a visit 20 years ago, although I didn't stay there at the time—but it is well maintained and consistently clean. The rooms are comfortable enough for an older property and were always kept to a good standard. The hotel also promotes environmentally friendly practices, offering an AUD10 credit off your final bill if you opt out of daily housekeeping. The rooms contain everything you would expect, including a safe, fridge and coffee-making facilities. The toiletries provided were of particularly good quality. My only real complaint was the minibar pricing, which, unfortunately, was as expensive as most hotel minibars and best avoided unless absolutely necessary. The bar was pleasant, although the furniture could benefit from some updating. The staff were somewhat mixed in their approach. Some were friendly and engaging—particularly Jack, an English gentleman with a beard—while others seemed less welcoming. The food, however, was excellent, with very generous portion sizes; on several occasions, my wife and I found that sharing a single course was more than sufficient. The same inconsistency was noticeable at reception. At one point, I was close to asking to speak with a manager, as a young receptionist seemed unable to understand what had been agreed/arranged regarding a future check-in. In contrast, Gabe and Elena were exceptional throughout our stay. Both were professional, approachable and genuinely willing to go the extra mile. Elena personally brought our stored luggage to our room while we parked the car, was always pleasant and welcoming, and Gabe arranged for a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine for us, which was a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture. Overall, we had a pleasant stay in a hotel that is ideally located for access to the harbour and surrounding attractions. While some members of staff could be more welcoming, this was more than compensated for by others who delivered outstanding customer service and left a very positive impression.
