Medium size room, but only one chair , so I sat in the lobby to write my Tripadvisor note. Bed was good, bathroom ok, but the door could do with a lick op paint. I had my breakfast in town, because 3 buses with young kids arrived yesterday and they all had to have breakfast, it’s like eating your egg in a chicken coop.

“Good location of this hotel”

Some of the staff is friendly. Basic but clean hotel. Very near to the Altstadt. Breakfast was good. Not possible to have dinner there, but enough restaurants in the old town. Easy parking for my motorcycle!

If you've never heard of Ernst Fuchs (1930-2015), multitalented Austrian painter and one of the founders of the Viennese School of Fantastic Realism, join the club. But you'll also be wondering what this colorful (or garish, depending on your taste), hotel is doing in sleepy St. Veit, a charming farming community in the midst of one of the most historic valleys in Carinthia. After three nights there, we were still wondering. Not only do his drawings decorate the public spaces, but he evidently designed the glazed tiles of the circus-tent exterior and a groovy fountain in which arcing water jets splash the central statue square in the face! That said, the hotel stripped of its zany exterior would resemble a very functional and no-frills Holiday Inn Express. The staff couldn't have been more helpful in helping us to host a catered dinner buffet of about 40. The amenities are basic, but its prime location at the end of the pedestrian-only streets leading to the ancient walled town center and free parking, not to mention the bargain prices, make it a real find. (By the way, Fuchs had no connection with agrarian St. Veit an der Glan at all, only with the politicians who were the arbiters of urban planning.)

Conveniently placed in the center of town, this no-frills hotel offers standard facilities, relatively large and bright rooms and bathrooms. We had a bad start due to a junior check-in clerk who kept us waiting (one of us a disabled person) as she could not deal with the person checking in before us. She was not able to multi-task and prioritize but eventually the manager stepped in and resolved the issue. Another annoyance are the glass panels between the bathroom and the bedroom that tend to light up the bedroom when one uses the bathroom at night. The no-frills formula means no hot water kettle for tea and coffee in the rooms, a coffee machine in the breakfast area (closing at 10am), no ice or A/C. Hence the room can be warm at times. The 10EUR breakfast can be reasonable if one enjoys the offerings but steep if one only wants a cup of coffee or tea and a croissant. The manager is a switched-on person who stepped in to help on a couple of occasions. Overall, a good place to stay in the area and also fairly well-priced for but could be so much better if the soft-product were improved. For those sensitive to chemicals, the maids spray a heavily-scented bottle in the hallways and rooms daily. One more thing we could all do without.
