This is a large hotel in Bad Hofgastein. It has a thermal centre with sauna and pool, a residents lounge, a bar and a large restaurant serving traditional Austrian cuisine (welcome as my father was born in Vienna!) There is a small garden. The balconies have colourful window boxes which looks wonderful. The staff are cheerful and helpful. There are plenty of facilities on offer, including mountain guides and massage, for example. We had a large modern room with as requested a balcony and mountain views. We had half board, the best option as there aren’t really many restaurants, and all tend to serve similar cuisine. The town itself is fairly quiet, but there is a fine thermal complex and opportunities for walking in the mountains, with ravishing views. There are plenty of ski lifts, whisking one up to 6000 feet, to restaurants serving sustaining fare before you hit the well signposted and categorised trails. A definite recommendation for a summer holiday away from heat and crowds in a beautiful area. The ski season in winter would be good too.

We stayed in hotel Alpina for a ski trip, we were a group of 6 ,we had a slight mix up on arrival with rooms but that was cleared up quickly. This hotel is easily one of the best I've ever stayed in on a ski trip, the rooms are well equipped, comfortable, very quiet ,clean and warm. The staff are so helpful, friendly and attentive. We were on a half board stay so breakfast was very good great selection of bread, cheese, cereal, fruit, eggs, bacon, sausages, hams, juices, tea and coffee. We were also surprised to have after ski snacks in the afternoon which had soup,cakes etc. Evening meals were 4 courses with a big salad selection, soup, main course with 3 choices of meat, fish and vegetarian options followed by dessert. All in our group loved the food and they were happy to mix and match to accommodate tastes. Comfort rooms are definitely worth the few extra quid. The pool, sauna, steam room and wellness area are a lovely bonus after a long day skiing the only negative is kids being noisy. The hotel is about 10min walk to gondola but there is a bus stop just outside. The hotel has a boot and ski room but we used the lockers at the gondola or at the ski hire shop to store ours as its a lovely walk to the gondola and you might want to stop off without skis and boots. Hotel Alpina is a very traditional Austrian hotel but manages this tradition beautifully. I would highy recommend and would happily stay again. We had so much fun with the staff and manager.

“Wonderful hotel in a great location.”

Great location in town. Close to everything. Food and amenities were excellent. The only thing we wanted was to have coffee available before 7:30. Highly recommend it.

This has been one of the better resorts we have stayed in. (Over 36 in the last 18 years) It was obvious to us that there had been no expense spared in the upgrade of this hotel. The room we stayed in was spacious, comfortable (if not to warm at night) no regulation on radiator. The shower exceptionally good with plenty of hot water. This hotel is run very professionally and the Boss was on hand during most of the dining times. A good team he has. Food choices were very good and plenty of it. The main waiter? (George I think) was very assertive ( maybe too much for some) . Worked for Mr Ramsey I’m sure you’ll hear. A bit of a character- he does his best (highly trained) Swimming pool was amazing - bit noisy in the Austrian half term when we was there. Sauna good if your prepared to take your kit off. Short distance to bus stop to lift - take note of return bus number. Or 10-15 min walk if you fancy it in those boots - locker system at lifts and shops. The conditions for us were brilliant. Wide slopes and good bus system to Sportgastein. Well worth a visit. 20 minutes bus.
