Pension David is spectacularly located. This whole review should fit in that one sentence. Climb up from the Puch Bei Hallein village, cross a bridge, drive through a tree canopy lined lane and on until you find the hotel. It is located close to the highway so people with sensitive hearing might find that annoying. We had no such irritations of the sort and our stay was pleasant and warm. The family was welcoming and the check in process was smooth and quick. There is more than enough parking on the hotel grounds. Breakfast options were in line with 3 star village hotel offerings so no complaints. It was less crowded during our stay so we had no trouble with portions and refills. The breakfast hall has excellent views of the surrounding grounds. We would love to come back in the winter and I suspect that the hotel is more lively and spirited during winter climes.

“"Pretty nice and homely hotel"”

Its a really nice hotel, in a still place, we could see the Alpes from our windows. The room was homely and sheer, comfortable. The service was nice. The breakfast was really good, a good sort of bread, pretty good coffee machine.

This hotel has only been open since early this year. It's not easy to find if you're coming from the south, like we were from the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest), and even the GPS got confused and tried to take us through a field! Once we arrived, we loved it! It was very clean, nicely decorated, and everything was new. The owner is very polite and welcoming. The food we had to choose from both mornings we were there was delicious! It's exactly a 30-minute drive to Obersalzberg, where the Eagle's Nest buses are, and about 25 minutes to Salzburg for the Sound of Music sites, Mozart's birthplace, etc. The only thing that made our stay uncomfortable was not having a ceiling fan in the room. The summer of 2017 was unusually warm in Germany and Austria, and it was very warm and stifling in our room, even at night. The window only opens about 2 inches (5 cm), and there was no breeze anyway, so it was difficult to sleep. In fact, on our second night, because the window had no screen, a very large wasp flew into our room before we shut off the light for the night. When I tried to kill it and missed, it chased me into the hallway where I broke a light that I paid for the next morning, and provided great entertainment for my wife and two daughters! I'm not sure if this qualifies as a boutique hotel, because it's not in an urban area, and it's not a 5-star hotel, but I think it qualifies in every other way. Except for the room being so warm, it's a lovely place to stay and I highly recommend it. I would stay here again if I ever come back to the Salzburg/Berchtesgaden area.
