“Beautiful hotel in a mountain biking paradise”

I had a wonderful stay at the hotel. I was there for the mountain biking but really enjoyed the friendly & helpful staff, great food and much needed rooftop pool, spa & sauna facilities. The location & views are beautiful. I’d love to return during the winter season

The stay at the hotel was exceptional from start to finish. The reception staff were very welcoming and friendly, at all times during our stay. The restaurant staff were perfect in attitude and service, and the food was inventive and delicious. The housekeeping staff were very good at their job. The owner, Isabella, was friendly and approachable and obviously paid attention to every little detai in the running and atmosphere of her hotel. I would recommend this hotel as one of the best I’ve stayed in.

Our first stay in Saalbach and Saalbacher Hof is in a perfect location to access all local amenities including public transport and lifts. The greeting was warm and friendly and the staff throughout were helpful and a credit to the hotel. The room (a family suite) was a great size and very comfortable. Being at the back of the hotel meant it was quiet - with the exception of movie night by the pool which we were just underneath. This meant we had to close the windows on a very hot night albeit the glazing is excellent for blocking the noise. Everything was clean and well presented, with comfortable beds. The rooftop pool and gardens was a perfect place to relax, we didn't use the spa facilities but feedback from others was very positive and it looked lovely. We enjoyed the bar area and outside terrace with live music and world cup games shown, so a good atmosphere. Breakfast options were good, always fresh and well stocked giving a great start to the day. Unfortunately the evening meals, in our opinion, took the edge off the experience. As with other Austrian hotels we've stayed in, you choose in the morning, and on some days, the menu was not to our taste. The salad bar is great but then only one starter and one soup available each day and only one meat, one fish or one vegetarian main course option so choice was limited and flavour combinations a little experimental at times. Having chosen fish the first 2 nights, both times poorly cooked, it was a relief to have a BBQ treat on the 3rd night. My 17 year old daughter ended up ordering from the children's menu - it would be good if the adults could also choose a basic pasta or schnitzel dish without an additional €20 charge. Knowing you are coming to dinner to a meal you are not looking forward to is disappointing. We are not fussy eaters, but did struggle often to enjoy the food. That said, service was great, we have to mention Evangelos and Theoni who looked after us so well. Overall, we had a great stay. Would we stay again? Because food is a big part of our holiday it would be a no. If we knew we could try new things but have the option of a more 'normal' main course where nothing met our taste, we would definitely consider returning.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable, and energetic, weeks holiday in the beautiful village of Saalbach staying at the Saalbacher Hof Hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location situated in the centre of the village with just a short walk to both lifts and the bus stop to other lifts in the valley. The staff are friendly and professional with nothing too much trouble. The whole hotel is spotlessly clean, the pool and pool area well maintained as are the rooms which are fairly well equipped. The meals are tasty and well presented and in some cases quite ‘innovative’ although the choice is quite limited, insomuch as only one meat, one fish and one vegetarian option, no options on starters, soup or desert and they are definitely, in the majority of cases, very small portions, especially the soup, barely a couple of spoonfuls. The breakfast was ok, a reasonable choice available but the ‘egg’ station was at times frustrating, being told to come back in ten minutes, was in our option not acceptable. We chose a ‘superior’ double room but although it was ample, size wise, it didn’t have a ‘view’ as we just looked out on a ‘green’ wall. It seems that you might need to book a suite for anything with a view!! The major plus with the holiday was the ‘joker’ card which most hotels in Saalbach offer, and which gives you unlimited rides on the lifts, free local and regional transport on buses and trains. Amazing value!! We enjoyed our stay both in the hotel and the Saalbach area but next time we would certainly choose, perhaps, a more traditional Austrian style hotel with more ‘normal’ dining options.
