We spent a week in a Junior Suite at the Saalbacher Hof at the beginning of the summer season. Our first impression was that it wasn't a typical Austrian looking hotel but in fact it is but with added art and design features. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the rooftop garden and outside pool and with a great view of the Schattberg mountain and gondola. Positives - Very friendly , professional staff Clean, well designed & spacious room Provision of Robes & towels for swimming ; umbrellas if raining Great facilities eg indoor and outside pool ; relaxation room etc Extremely well cooked and presented 5 course dinner Extensive choice of hot and cold options for breakfast Large selection of wines by the glass available in restaurant ( ~ €7.6 for 1/8th Litre) Very peaceful setting located in the centre of Saalbach Easy to get to all the valleys Lifts and local buses - all free with the Joker and mobility card, (we went to Zell Am See for the day - just 30mins travel on the free bus) Considerations (which could be negatives for some people) The set dinner menu (You could only choose between either a meat/fish or veggie main course) so this may be an issue for fussy eaters The hotel runs many events during high summer in the rooftop garden so it may be much noisier and lively than when we were there? Overall we would highly recommend the hotel as one of the best choices in Saalbach

When booking the Saalbacher Hof we were slightly wary about staying in such a large hotel in the centre of town (we mostly stay in small hotels on the periphery of ski resorts); we really shouldn't have worried. Though large, the hotel has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and all the staff are personable and engaging. They are all very helpful. The hotel is very well equipped and maintained and the ski room is immense. The location is perfect and very close to all the main lifts. The quality of food and wine was very impressive - always interesting things to eat on the varying menus (and even the packed breakfast we were given because of our early return departure time was the best and most lavish we've ever had). We were fortunate to have a Junior Suite, which was spacious and very comfortable; it was also very quiet as it was high up and at the back of the block it was in. However, the best part of our stay was our waiter, Vlad, who was attentive, informative, and unfailingly helpful and entertaining. The quality of the food made every meal good, and Vlad made them fun. It was a real pleasure to meet him.

We had such a good stay at Saalbacher Hof. It’s one of those hotels where you just feel comfortable straight away. The location is honestly perfect. It’s right in the centre of Saalbach and super close to three main ski lifts. You can walk to all of them in ski boots in just a few minutes. No buses, no complicated planning. Just step out and go. The hotel itself is really high standard, but in a relaxed way. The rooms are big, well laid out and practical. Bathrooms are great, with everything you need. You can see that someone really thought about how people actually use the space. Everything is clean, tidy and just easy to live in. The spa area is amazing. Indoor and outdoor pool, jacuzzi, saunas… plenty of options depending on your mood. After skiing it’s such a treat. The roof garden is also beautiful, with great views – perfect place to just sit and breathe for a moment. I loved the library space. It’s quiet and cosy, and there’s a power socket next to every sofa, so you can sit comfortably with your laptop. You even have direct access to the garden from there, which makes it feel even nicer. Practical things are done really well too. The ski and bike room is big and comfortable. The luggage room on departure day is also spacious, so you don’t have to drag your bags around after check-out. These small details really matter. The bar and woodburner lounge are very cosy in the evening. Food was great, with themed nights and lots of choice. They also cater properly for vegans, which is nice to see, even though I’m not one myself. And the staff – really friendly and helpful. Not in a forced way, just genuinely nice people who make you feel welcome. Overall, it’s a hotel where everything simply works. Great location, great facilities, great people. We would happily come back.
