“4-Night Austrian experience”

I booked this room well in advance with 3 days before traveling cancellation and pay at departure conditions. The purpose the trip was to celebrate my 50th birthday with my wife in "Austrian Style". I contacted the hotel in advance and asked for a room with balcony - instant answer - "NO Problem!". We arrived and were expected by one of the many airport taxis I had booked in advance 30EUR plus airport access. Nothing wrong with that, except it was no Limousine as advertised, but rather a well aged private car with child seat in the boot... If you want a Limousine use TTC situated within the airport arrival hall right next to the 40100 meter taxi company. They charge 36EUR fixed and have proper limousines for that! Sory back to the hotel :)) The hotel is privately run and situated at the bottom of their own wine hill in a village called Neustift am Walde. This is within the 19th (of 23) Destrict of Vienna so calculate approx 45min by taxi to the airport (1hr public transport) and 30-40 min to the center using bus a35 (every couple of minutes 50yrds from the hotel and after a 3 min walk from where the bus ends (Spitellau) to the U4 which brings you to the City Ring locations including the Opera house. Important for the red line of the Hop on and off City tours and others. Booking in took 2 min - hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful - their motto - just ask!!! Some of the staff live in the hotel and the owner is around on most days. The house is dog friendly and visitors are allowed to bring their dog! Parking is possible on the road (with some luck) and for a fee at the hotel's own car facility. Our double bed room was on the 2nd of 3 floors and overlooked the enclosed breakfast garden. The room was nicely decorated, very clean with comfortable beds and lots of storage. It was quiet, had everything what one would ask for and strictly for non smokers. The breakfast is mainly cold (you get boiled and fried eggs if you want to) but very well appointed and with great choice (some things ran out after the w/e though). There is a computer, reading area, games area and info corner for guests and a bar for a "good night drink" on the ground level. Along the road are a number of Heurigen (wine bars with food) and the Hotel's restaurant . All have outdoor areas (a must during the summer with temps around 25-28 Celsius) and some have traditional entertainment. We loved the Schreiberhaus - 300m from hotel. Whatever we asked the hotel staff they were happy and quick there to help, which made a more than welcome change to most other places I have been to - just great! There are a number of small things though that may not suit all. By law all wine gardens have to close at 10pm, but also the Hotel bar closes at this time. No-one pushes you out, but you are out of luck looking for a beer at 11pm. Another point is the access to the lifts - there are 6 steps there and the floor on the reception level is covered with carpets - keep this in mind if you mobilize with a wheel chair. Our room was a bit snug - deffo impossible for wheelchair usage. Final points - The rooms still use a key (also opens the front door after 10pm) which means you have to lock the room from the inside - it does not do this by itself... (small problem I know...). And, This whole experience is more for adult connoisseurs rather than children and teenagers. Well I wanted the Austrian touch and I was not disappointed! Would I come back - ABSOLUTELY! Sure - it's a bit of a drive to Vienna and not everything is Intercontinental Hotel standard (read my review on that one too) but I found it well deserving of it's 4 stars and embraced the most downsides rather as quirkiness. Both, my wife and I LOVED our Furgassl-Huber experience!
