“Old but comfy hotel”

A bit of an older hotel (I was told the oldest in DF) and it shows, it needs some freshing up. But the staff is extremely helpfull and friendly, the bar is pleasant and breakfast is very good. The rooms are spacious but again a bit ouf of fashion.

A huge, decadent hotel which saw much better times. The general atmosphere is gloomy, everything is old and badly needs refurbishing. However the general experience is not bad: rooms are big, mine had a great view on the monumental area, the bed is good, and breakfast is excellent. Walking distance from the monumental area. The restaurant serves quite decent food and is open till midnight. Again on the negative side: the personnel are quite grumpy, even impolite; apparently nobody speaks any English (quite strange in a big hotel in the capital city); no power outlets near the bed; the room is equipped with a huge very old fridge (I would date it to the 70s) which is stocked with a few cans and is very noisy. Internet is stable but quite slow.

I stayed for a meeting. This is a huge hotel, typical for Brasilia - and in need of modernization. Check-in was smooth but nobody spoke English. The room was fine in terms of size, but you hear everything as there is poor sound insulation. A small desk allows working in the room, the internet is surprisingly slow. The bed was good, also the aircon/heater. The bathroom was old-fashioned and not very practical. Breakfast was a huge buffet of acceptable quality, the restaurant serves OK food around the pool. Taxis are available in front of the hotel but souvenirs are not.

I was told that Hotel Nacional was the first hotel built in Brasilia. Indeed, it is built like a grand hotel. Unfortunately it is not maintained as a grand hotel. My suite was huge, with living room, bed room, entry hall and a large bath room, but with the plastic flowers and the oil color painted wardrobes it was depressing. Worse, the internet did not work, and although I was promised that a technician will come to fix it "in five minutes" this prediction did not materialize for the two days that I was there. This meant that I could not work in my room, adding to my sour mood. The breakfast is OK, but once I had dinner, and the buffet offered was not good. The view from my suite was rather ugly as well. If you can, take your business somewhere else.

“Decadent charm”

Hotel Nacional is a Brasília landmark. Upon arrival there is a huge desk. The white lights from the ceiling and dark wood provide a strange atmosphere. Hotel Nacional is a Brasília landmark. Upon arrival there is a huge desk. The white lights from the ceiling and dark wood provide a strange atmosphere. A plaque celebrates the visit of Queen Elisabeth, near an impressive Mario Cravo sculpture. My room was huge, with a living room and two bathrooms. Furniture is absolutely dated in the 1960s or 70s. Artificial flowers complete the kitsch atmosphere. The main bathroom was very big. The shower was very good. Breakfast is good but very busy. They have a tapioca with eggs and cheese which is remarkable. Internet access is free but very bad. The long corridors are only illuminated where you are, resulting in a creepy feeling. I remembered the long corridors of "The Shining". A hint: avoid walking in the streets surrounding the hotel at night.
