Llego a Barra da Tijuca de noche, todavía con el envión del partido en que Argentina le pasó por arriba a Inglaterra, y me encuentro con este hotel que me había recomendado mi agente de viajes. La primera habitación que nos dan no está a la altura de lo que pagamos: chica, con un baño justo y una vista que no era la que esperaba. Se lo comento al conserje y el viernes no hay caso, no queda del todo claro si tienen lugar. Pero al otro día, contándoles que estamos cumpliendo veinticinco años de casados, Lorran, del front desk, nos cambia a un piso mucho más alto: habitación con vista al mar, el baño más grande y la cama mejor puesta. Un hallazgo. Lorran se portó de primera de punta a punta, nos recomendó mil cosas y le dejo acá el mejor de los reconocimientos. El desayuno es una locura: jamón, crudo, salmón, todos los días algo distinto y todo muy bien presentado, con una atención de primera aunque el hotel esté siempre lleno. Pedimos room service dos noches —unos espaguetis a la boloñesa y una pizza, los dos muy bien— y el clima nos acompañó como pocas veces. La pileta está en el último piso, con una vista impresionante de toda Barra, el agua cálida y lugar para tomar sol incluso a la tarde, cuando en la playa el viento ya molesta un poco. Muy buena relación calidad-precio; me voy contento. I arrive in Barra da Tijuca at night, still riding the high of Argentina running right over England, and check into this hotel my travel agent had recommended. The first room they give us isn't up to what we paid: small, a tight bathroom, and a view that wasn't the one I'd been hoping for. I mention it to the concierge and on Friday there's nothing doing —it's not fully clear whether they have space. But the next day, once we tell them we're celebrating twenty-five years of marriage, Lorran at the front desk moves us up to a much higher floor: sea view, a bigger bathroom, the bed better placed. A real find. Lorran was first-class from start to finish, gave us a ton of recommendations, and he gets my biggest shout-out here. Breakfast is something else: ham, prosciutto, salmon, something different every day and all beautifully laid out, with top-notch service even though the hotel is always packed. We ordered room service two nights —spaghetti bolognese and a pizza, both very good— and the weather treated us better than it has in ages. The pool sits on the top floor with a stunning view over all of Barra, the water's warm, and there's room to catch some sun even in the afternoon, when the wind already gets a bit annoying down at the beach. Great value for the money; I'm leaving happy.
