“Beautiful common areas, not so great rooms”

This pousada has been recently renovated and is set in a very beautiful location, a good 2.5km far from the beach but in the middle of lush rainforest, so worth the trip. The common areas - pool, bar and restaurant, hammock gazebo - are lovely and well kept. Breakfast was great, lots of options, including fresh fruit juice and decent coffee. The beds are excellent, with new high quality mattresses (I think they are pocket spring with a good top layer, similar to memory foam), new and silent AC units, and the showers are great, individual gas boilers for each room and plenty of water pressure (there was some problem with ours on the last day as it kept switching itself off, but not too much hassle to just close and reopen the water, so we couldn't be bothered to complain). However, most rooms do not have proper windows, but rather, patio doors that most often open out to a wall, so no view from the room, which is a real shame given the lovely setting. It also means rooms are kept closed most of the time and as this is a very humid area, you can imagine the smell of damp... The rooms that do have proper outward facing windows and a nice view of the surrounding forest are very small, so only good for couples. All in all, I'd go back to this place, but only if one of these smaller rooms were available, and mostly because it's a very reasonably priced pousada for the quality of the infrastructure they offer. One point they can and should improve on, very urgently, is to get a good chef, as the food served at the restaurant for lunch and dinner was not very good.
