I stayed at this hotel for my first couple of visits to Burundi. It is located on the edge of the very secure and well guarded "diplomatic" residential area at Kiriri on the hill overlooking the city. On the plus side the view is excellent and the hotel is high enough to reduce the mosquito nuisance and the temperature is always a little lower than down in the city. There is a nice pool but not in the best location being in front of two bars with many onlookers at times. The rooms are in various buildings that are set out like a colonial house and outbuildings. The staff are very friendly and try hard, especially on the front desk where they have some English but most of the other staff do not. The breakfast is served buffet style and is sometimes very limited, especially when the numbers of residents are low, as they often are. The other food is of an OK standard but the menus are limited. The rooms are very basic and poorly furnished, and over a long stay become quite uncomfortable. There is only a very small working surface and the chair was very uncomfortable. Th TV did not have too many channels to start with and possibly as an economy measure seemed to reduce with every stay and finally amounted to only BBC World in English. The internet connection was very poor, only one small corner of one bar seemed to have anything like a decent connection and all this got very frustrating after a while. Hotel bills had to be paid in cash which is quite inconvenient if having a long stay and I finally decided to have a look around for alternatives and moved to the Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika for pretty much the same daily rate and far far superior amenities. One thing that was a little hard to explain was that the hotel seemed very popular with visiting diplomatic delegations as it could take a large entourage and was reasonably secure. This small hotel / guest house was very pleasant, but quiet. The property has the feel of a large converted house, which makes it feel intimate, and not over run by guests. This small hotel / guest house was very pleasant, but quiet. The property has the feel of a large converted house, which makes it feel intimate, and not over run by guests. The front of house staff were polite and friendly. The rooms were very large and reasonably decorated. There was air conditioning but no wall safe. The wifi was free and reliable. There were mosquito nets over the beds. There was a good sized swimming pool, with lounge chairs. Breakfast is served on the terrace over looking the pool. If you want a cooked breakfast I recommend that you order it the night before, and state what time you will be arriving (otherwise you might have rather a long wait!). It felt a reasonable place to stay for a few days, as long as you aren't expecting the hotel to provide the basis of an exciting fun filled stay.
