This was our second time staying at this hotel. The staff were friendly, and there was a liquor store and a Chinese restaurant within the same complex. The washroom felt a bit run down compared to the room, but the bed and pillow linens were clean. The room also came with a microwave, an induction/electric stove, and all the necessary kitchen tools and plates. We arrived in Victoria late in the day and couldn’t make it to the farmers’ market to buy fresh seafood to cook in the room. There is only one elevator in the hotel, and it is extremely slow, so we always took the stairs instead of waiting.

“Clean, comfortable beds, good shower, great employees- but pretty dated.”

We waited until late to book a hotel and most were either sold out or prohibitively expensive, so we booked here. Hadn't stayed at a Red Lion in decades! Our room, which was nice and clean if worn, was on the 3rd floor, overlooking the pool with 2 double beds and a small kitchenette (microwave, plug-in induction cooktop that was in the cabinet, coffeemaker and fridge). We didn't cook, but could've, and walking down the hallway, we could smell that others had. Someone made a fish dinner one evening but in our room, with the window open and the evening breeze coming in, that odor was gone within 30 minutes. There were LOTS of towels that were replenished each day (nice) and shampoo, bar soap, and shower caps that were replenished daily. The shower was nice and hot, beds were comfy, sheets felt good, and there was a big portable A/C machine that vented to the outside that was very much appreciated when it got warmer. Maid service was daily. The hotel was a bit of a distance from downtown to walk, but with a car was fine and the parking was good (we got spots easily at all time of day) in high season. There was a lounge and a liquor store nearby which concerned me, but there were no problems (we popped in and looked once, dark and full of older folks, surprisingly!) but didn't get anything. All in all, I'd book it again given the same situation.

Good location, very close to Uptown Mall, the lobby looks renovated and the building even features a courtyard with an outdoor pool. Our room on level 1 had a nice kitchenette. The bathroom is clean and the water pressure was good. However, the hallway had persistent food smell from the neighbouring Chinese restaurant, and the bedsheets caused incessant itching. Despite being tired after a long flight, we did not have a restful night here.
