My nephew and I stayed three nights with his hockey team for a tournament. All of the staff were great. John especially went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He was very patient and kind with the boys and went above and beyond to find a space in the hotel where they could play mini sticks without disturbing other guests. The hotel staff also provided breakfast half an hour earlier than scheduled for the team and their families when we had an early game.

Ah, I stayed at the Oshawa Holiday Inn Express & Suites for New Years Eve 2025. I wanted a place to stay after seeing a concert that a friend was performing in just a few blocks away (Bond St. Cafe/Theatre), and it would be nice to have a place to sleep nearby in case I partied a bit too hearty. I used the above ground parking lot, I have a truck so I like the extra space and no need to worry about height restrictions. But the hotel does appear to have under ground parking available. It got packed up fairly fast, when I arrived it seemed like everyone at the hotel was arriving cause there was about 2 or 3 other cars pulling in at the same time I was. Check-in was quite busy, I felt bad it seemed there was only one person checking in a long line of guests. A mix of couples, singles and a two families, each with 6 kids. But, it went fairly fast and I was up to the room in a reasonable amount of time. Upon grabbing more luggage from my truck, the amount of people in line did not appear to change. Before heading for some food at the on-site Wendel Clark Restaurant, the line had finally dissipated. I suppose NYE had something to do with that, so I won't take that against the hotel in anyway. Looks like the Holiday Inn Express was the place to be!! The room was very spacious. I chose a King standard sofa bed room, and i was greeted with a lot of space in the room, a nice bed with sort of a business/living room closer to the window. I was blown away at the size of the in room fridge. I think it was about double the size of the fridges I'd normally expect at a hotel, and I did have just a few after-party cans kept cool in there. There was also a nicely sized microwave, a Keurig machine on the desk next to the TV, also an ice bucket, tray and two cups (I did not use any of these items so I can't attest to anything working or not working, but they were all in the room). The bathroom appeared very nice, clean, with a granite counter and a sliding glass shower enclosure. Water pressure was, just slightly good to not too good for the shower. The bathroom had no exhaust fan, seems normal at most hotels I've been in. Lighting was really nice, with a massive tube of light above the mirror and a light in the shower enclosure. The room itself boasted 4 lamps throughout, with an entry way pot light. It was lit up fairly decently even with just two lamps on at night. I was able to connect to the hotel WiFi on the tablet, the speeds seemed great and allowed me to connect with some other friends for their New Years'. I did not use the TV. It looked a bit small, in my opinion at least. Maybe mid 30" size, but I suppose it was adequate, and again I just used my tablet so it didn't matter anyways. They put me on the 6th floor which was the top floor of the hotel. The top floor also seemed to be away from any of the families with the large number of kids, which I did appreciate. Views of the bustling metropolis of Oshawa were.... fine. No fault of the hotel again. Only thing that soured my experience of giving a full 5 star review, and again this was out of control of the hotel, was having the fire alarm go off at 4 AM. What a lovely early morning wake-up call for the whole hotel. : However, it seemed like I wasn't the only one who sheltered in place, I saw the person across the hall from me open and peek out when the firefighters came up to our floor. Within about 30 to 45 mins the issue seemed to be resolved and everyone was let back into the building. I got a few more hours of sleep before waking up around 8 am, and the fire alarm going off again briefly for 15 seconds this time, thankfully. But by then I had resolved I just wanted to get home. Oh, I think because of the fire alarm early in the morning, one of the two elevators was now overridden into Fire Use Mode, so there was only 1 of the 2 elevators working upon my departure. I can't make any additional comments on the free breakfast that I had been looking forward too. Although, while looking for the entrance to Wendel's, the common/breakfast area did seem nice, clean and big. Overall it wasn't too bad, the cleanliness of the room and hotel was adequate, and the bed was nice, as was room noise (no issues on my end, and I tried to keep my tablet volume down for any other neighboring rooms).
