We spent three nights at the Lofts at Bentleys and it was fabulous. The two floor lofts feel extravagant but were very well priced for location and amenities. The bed (very comfortable) and kitchenette with bistro set (microwave, coffee machine, kettle with cutlery, glasses and plates) were on the lower level and the bathroom on the upper level so not so good for those with mobility issues or night time issues but not a problem for us. Very convenient location on the main street, and we thought being above the bar could be potentially noisy but no, not at all. You have to check in inside the bar, there is only a dedicated desk, but no real reception area, but it was not a problem at all. All the staff here are incredibly helpful and friendly.Indoor parking is available free at a parking garage across the street which was handy! The only thing we found was that the TV was not working the best, the quality of the picture was hardly watchable but to be fair we weren't there to watch TV, we were out enjoying Stratford!

There were several positive things about this hotel room (103): the location is great, right in the heart of downtown and convenient to everything. There were several positive things about this hotel room (103): the location is great, right in the heart of downtown and convenient to everything. Despite the central location, the room was quiet, the bed comfortable and the room commodious. The kitchenette (fridge and microwave) was a nice touch. We knew the room would be upstairs from the bar/restaurant but the stairs are quite a steep hike; definitely not for anyone with mobility problems. Staff very graciously carried our bags upstairs. The two deal-breakers however, which would stop us from staying here again, were the location of the bathroom in the upstairs loft-very inconvenient in the middle of the night-and the skylight (no windows!) above the bed. It started getting light around 5 am and we had no choice but to wake up!

We spent just one night at Bentley’s Inn. Unfortunately, despite the wonderful location, the loft space was not the right fit for us. The bathroom is 13 stairs up in the upper loft and the main bed is on the bottom floor. If you need to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, like me, it’s quite a steep hike. Repeat that a couple of times and it’s not fun. Overall pros: Location Free car parking for one vehicle overnight Mini fridge - While there is a small coffee maker, there is no milk/creamer, just a couple sugars. There is a tea kettle and teapot but no tea. Basket of cutlery, dish towel Bed is a king and is comfortable Bathroom is in OK shape Quiet except for around entrance to the room. Cons: Dirty carpets, overall lack of cleanliness, peeling paint, extremely worn lamps and furniture. 13 stairs up to bathroom Stairs both up and down to our room from main desk Lack of light in bathroom and on main floor - light fixtures emit very little light. On the flip side, there is constant light coming into the room at night from outside as there are no blackout curtains. Hard to get someone to help you if you have an issue. (The remote for the ceiling fan didn’t work which would have been fine except it was on and noisy and I knew I'd have to turn it off in order to sleep.) We had to wait until the bartender had a break before we could speak to him. Glad we left some extra time on the way to the theatre. Thin towels Blow dryer - so weak, it would take a very long time to actually dry your hair. Hope they manage to update these rooms so that we'd consider returning.

“Interesting Hotel If One Can Do All The Steps + Overlook The Hotel's Shortcomings”

Stayed 2 Days and 3 Nights. There is no elevator but 24 steps up to the rooms. Our room had 13 steps to the upper level. Believe all rooms are all multi-level. Parking is included and is indoors across the street. Our room was very large and with nice furnishings and appointments, including numerous higher quality pictures. The 8’ wide area beside the windows is fully open fto the upper ceiling. Believe all rooms have a kitchenette that includes a small fridge, a microwave, and a sink. The bathroom, which is on the upper level, is very modern with a heated floor, jet tub and large shower. There are 2 single sink, large vanities in separate areas. Lighting for both is terrific. Our room had 2 king beds, each with a memory foam mattress. There are 2 round, large serving trays that fit the top of the 2 round stools in the living room. They are a great idea if one wants to watch tv while drinking and eating. There is a 4-place dining table. However, it is not located where the tv can be seen. Also, there is a desk that has 2 USB ports. The in-room coffee maker worked well and the provided coffee was very good. There is plenty of storage in dresser drawers and a large amour. The main heating/air conditioning system is supplemented by 5 individually controlled electric wall heaters, 3 electric fireplaces and a large ceiling fan. My cell and laptop both have VPN’s so downloading from the internet was slow, but it did stay connected, unlike far too many other hotels. Bentley’s Bar & Restaurant is located downstairs. The food is good. It is not open for breakfast but is very busy for both lunch and dinner so would recommend reservations. The hotel room area was very quiet. There are certainly shortcomings. The very large windows in our room look out over the rear of the hotel with all the heat, air conditioning and restaurant mechanical at eye level so would not ever want to open the windows due to noise and smell. Is also a real eyesore. The main heating/air conditioning system is complicated to set and finding someone at the hotel who really understands it is a problem. Believe the air conditioning was turned off so to cool the room to sleep comfortably at night had to rely solely on the air conditioning fan which brought in air from the outside. Thankfully, the temperature outside was quite cool but it still took a long while to get the room cooled down. The plates and cutlery are stored in a basket under the sink along with all the drainpipes and stains caused I assume by leaks, not a great location. The hotel is starting to get tired. The mattresses, at least the one upstairs, is badly humped in the middle so should be replaced. Of the 3 electric fireplaces, two each have their own controller. Neither worked. A hotel person changed the batteries in one and then decided that the other fireplace simply did not work. I had extra batteries so subsequently changed those in the controller for one that supposedly did not work. It had not been maintained for such a long time that the batteries had leaked all over the inside of the controller. Was very surprised when I got it to work. The fireplace on the main floor starts and gives off heat but the flames do not work. The fireplace in the bathroom is all messed up and does not work at all. Carpets in the hallways are beginning to show their age and are dirty. The carpet in our room had 3 large burns, several very large stains and are tired. They need to be replaced. The heat/air conditioning vent over the bed in the upper area had not been cleaned for a very long time. It was coated with dust. At our request, it was cleaned, but not very well. The top of the hair dryer in the bathroom is also coated with dust. The glass on the portable mirror has not been cleaned recently. There was a large coffee cup stain on one of the night tables beside the bed upstairs which I easily but only partially removed with a damp cloth. Checked several areas on top of the baseboards in the upper bedroom. They also had not been cleaned recently. Then just stopped looking for more housekeeping issues. We were not told, either when we booked or at check in, that only light housekeeping would be provided. On day 1, the garbage was emptied, the used towels were replaced although just left stacked on the top of the toilet lid rather than put back where they were when we arrived, and the coffee was replenished. The bed was not changed or made up. Neither the shampoo nor the conditioner was replaced even though we left the storage tray that had held the 2 items missing out in plain view. Housekeeping on day 2 was the same as on day 1 and still no shampoo or conditioner replacement. The side of one of the vinyl-covered stools in the living room is peeling badly. The arms on both cloth chairs in the living room are quite worn. The shade on one light beside the bed on the lower level is noticeably damaged. Personally, we would probably not choose to stay here again. However, if it were to be one’s choice, this hotel, likely because it is so well located in the heart of downtown Stratford, seems to fill up very quickly so would suggest booking well in advance for any planned stay during the Festival Season.
