“Business hotel done well”

The Marriott has a great location on Ottawa’s O train line, right on one station but also close to the Parliament stop. The major sights of the city are also all within walking distance, including the Byward Market. It’s enough to visit the hotel’s 28th floor to make sightseeing plans. The rooms are fairly large and come with welcome bathtubs to soak in after the chilling Ottawa winter weather. Even though this is clearly a business-orientated hotel, it has small touches of making the stay feel like you are not in a conference hotel and the staff are a big part of that. Room rate was also very reasonable, this is definitely a hotel to consider for future visits.

“Disappointing”

I booked this hotel because of the pool and games room. It was a birthday present for two kids and I liked the description of the games room for older kids (age 10). Pool was great. When we found the kid zone the attached space for older kids was all arcade games you pay for. I went to the desk to complain about misleading info on the website and eventually discovered that, after talking with the manager, there was a separate room called the teen room which the woman at the desk didn’t know about. When we went to it there were some of the games listed on the website but not all. Another parent I talked with was similarly disappointed. Also, the sofa bed in our room was terrible…very uncomfortable metal coils. The hotel has no rooms with queen beds.

The hotel room was clean but quite dated, our bathroom was small and very basic, without a fan or exhaust system to keep the moisture out. The hotel room was clean but quite dated, our bathroom was small and very basic, without a fan or exhaust system to keep the moisture out. The bedroom was equipped with a king size bed, and enough pillows for two guests. Linen seemed to be from a much smaller bed, so I can only imagine how hard it would be to change. Maybe that’s why we did not have anyone come to make the bed after the first night. There was a coffee maker in the room with coffee pods (3) and tea bags (2). I would call it a “no-frills” experience, certainly expecting more, since it was $800 for three nights.
