Overall grade: A-. I’ve stayed at many hotels in Santiago, and the Renaissance is still the one. Sleep quality: A-. Rooms facing south receive highway noise, rooms facing north are much quieter. Please note that you need to call the front desk to manually adjust the in-room temperature. Otherwise, it’s set to minimize environmental impact. Views: B. High-floor rooms have nice views of the surrounding area with a glimpse of the mountains. Since the hotel faces north/south, there is not a direct view of the sunrise or sunset. Bathroom: B. Walk-in shower with excellent water pressure. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are delightful. Towels were well worn and should have been replaced. In-Room Amenities: B. For whatever reason, the TV has always been a problem at this hotel. Watching basic cable channels is a chore, and the last room did not have a smart TV. Food: A-. Multiple restaurants are on site. Executive lounge is one of the better ones in the Marriott system with plentiful food during breakfast and happy hour. Evening appetizers are more than enough for a full meal. Drinks and non-alcoholic beverages are available all day but no snacks. Amenities: A-. The gym has standard equipment, but it’s situated in the basement (no external windows). Spa and small pool are a bonus for a city hotel. Location: B+. The half-mile walk to the best mall in Santiago is a plus. The highway-adjacent location means easy access heading west to the airport. It’s a solid 30-minute walk to the metro station, but catching an Uber has not been an issue. Service: A. This hotel treats its Marriott elite members extraordinarily well with better rooms, early check-in (when available), and confirmed late check-outs.

“Renaissance Club Lounge Experience”

I’m going to review the Renaissance Club Lounge experience. We used the club lounge for 8 nights during our stay in Santiago. Our impression is that the food options served as snacks or hors d’œuvres were about as good as you can get in any club lounge. So, well done Renaissance! The Chilean wine 🍷 options offered were fabulous - all presented in an environment with a wonderful Mountain View. But, what made the experience special was the team of waiters who took care of us. Renalto was our main Guy over our stay. So personable and with a great knowledge of wine and Chilean culture. Renalto’s English was excellent and he was always keen to attend to us. 5 stars Renalto. And Jesus and Franco were excellent as well , in Renalto’s absence. So, kudos to all three. It was a pleasure to go to the lounge and be looked after by these wonderful people. Thank you Guys and thank you Renaissance.

“Good Value by Local Standards”

This hotel is very good, if we had received a suite upgrade as Bonvoy Ambassador Elite I would say excellent instead of very good, but unfortunately not this time.  It would be a bit hard to blame them harshly however because I responded to their pre-arrival e-mail that we had a flight landing 7am and that we would like early check-in.  I preferred a non-suite early morning rather than wait for a suite, they prepared a non-suite so we took it.  Compared to other hotels where we have stayed in Santiago, the hardware is not as nice as Hyatt Centric but better than InterContinental and Marriott.  Lounge is very good, rarely do I see paella for happy hour anywhere in the world.  Drinks were not as extensive as IC but at least they had a homemade cocktail at Ren which changed daily.  The lounge was not crowded, fairly peaceful.  Breakfast was ok, not the best but serviceable. Having bubbly stood out positively more so than the food. Sometimes the price of Ren approaches the price of W, in such cases I would stay at W instead because it's a hotel which is a step above. But when Ren happens to be significantly cheaper than W then Ren would be one of my favorite choices in the city and good value for the money.

The Renaissance is located in my favorite area of Santiago - Las Condes - and is a nice option for the area. The atmosphere attempts to be modern and chic and I guess it delivers on that front. Our room on the 14th floor was comfortable and had a nice view over looking Avenida Kennedy. We were high enough such that road/city noise wasn't an issue. Our room was clean and comfortable. It was no problem to get a good nights rest. The club lounge on the 12th floor was nice in the afternoon. Our host, Renato, was great in interacting with the guests and in making us feel welcome. On our first night the lounge was super crowded due to people getting on and off cruises but as our time progressed the lounge was very nice. We tended to eat breakfast in the restaurant on level -1. It was pretty good although the selection seemed limited. I was surprised when I wanted pancakes one morning and found out it wasn't included in the buffet and required an additional charge. I did have one major problem at the hotel. For some reason the elevator I was in got stuck at the top of the shaft and none of the buttons nor the emergency phone worked. This was a bit distressing to me. Fortunately I was able to call the front desk on my mobile phone and they were able to eventually open the door after about 15 or 20 minutes of being trapped. The one thing that kind of surprised me is that when I wanted to talk with a manager about what happened the staff told me they were unavailable. I mentioned it again at the front desk the next day and a supervisor called and sent me a bottle of wine. I still feel like the follow up was really poor and I am not really sure if the management ever knew that someone was trapped in the elevator. The thing that was really distressing was to think how long I would have been stuck if I wasn't carrying my phone or if i could get a signal to call anyone. Would I stay again? I am not sure. I have also stayed at the Marriott further up the avenue and I think I enjoyed my stay there more. I am sure my stay is somewhat colored by my experience in the elevator so maybe I am being too harsh.
