Strange, isn't it, how different people have different impressions of things. The Imperio Suites, tucked round the corner from the main road, has a cramped and curious reception area (there's a little water dispenser, but there's barely room to sit), but the rooms are large, with plenty of space to loll about. OK, it's tired and needs modernising, but most hotels in this price range do, and this is slightly above average. Believe me, I've stayed in some dives in Chile down the years. Up on the top floor is the breakfast room, with toaster, fresh fruit, cheese, jams, bread, a tea urn, rather indifferent coffee (you're better off with teabags) and strange juices that turn into a daily quiz: can you work out what flavour it's meant to be? But further along the corridor on the top floor is a door out on to a terrace. This includes a swimming pool (see picture). Now, this is not a working pool, but the terrace has tables and chairs, so you can make an evening picnic if you're on a budget and eat up here in the open. It's a good place to sit and read (we weren't troubled by biting insects in February), or just chill. The only problem is that when the hotel is full of locals, they love to come up here and smoke. So non-smokers may get irritated by that. All in all, a spacious, basic hotel, good en suite, plenty of hangers, fair price.
