“Great view at the Red Sky lounge”

This resort has three different types of pools located next to the beach. Room was great with fantastic sea view. Don't miss the red sky lounge located on the 6th floor of south wing building in which you can overview the whole resort and bay. Breakfast was average.

The best thing about this hotel is the staff. The service is exceptional for Chinese standards and everyone is very helpful. You definitely need to be able to speak some Chinese since most of the employees don't speak much English. We want to say a big thank you to Charly and Nemo who were a big help with all of our questions. We booked the hotel with a special deal on Dianping and they let us stay in the Ocean View room during our whole stay. The room is spacious, clean and had an amazing view (number 530). The hotel breakfast is what you expect booking a Marriott with lots of Western choices as well as Chinese food. The facilities are also on a very high standard. There are different pools available and the gym has plenty of options with cardio and workout equipment. When we asked for some bottles of water it was brought to the gym! One of the unique features of this Marriott are the plenty activities they offer. Dragon building, archery, horse riding and of course surfing. There is a surfshop on the beach that belongs to the hotel. We went surfing to what is in our point of view the coolest beach on Hainan at the Ri Yue Bay (日月湾）. It is a 20 minute drive away and also very easy to reach. From Sanya Airport you will need about an hour. We took the taxi to the hotel for about 350RMB. For the way back we used our rental car. There are not really many downsides for this hotel. The staff could speak a bit more English but due to the pandemic most tourists were domestic. The location is a bit far away from outside restaurants and shops, but you can use Didi for Taxi or order food via Meituan. So really no big downsides. We can highly recommend the Marriott Xiang Shui Wan!

Unfortunately, our stay fell significantly short of what one would expect from a Marriott-branded property. ❌ Cons: – Rooms have an unpleasant smell – a mix of dampness and mustiness, making it uncomfortable to stay in – Avoid bay view rooms – starting around 4 AM, boats begin operating with loud engines, and the noise continues non-stop until around 10 AM. Sleeping is nearly impossible – The beach is not suitable for swimming – constant strong waves make it difficult to enter the water – Breakfast is heavily focused on Chinese cuisine – very limited selection of European options, which becomes an issue during longer stays – No entertainment or activities nearby – the hotel is quite isolated, with little to do outside the property – Serious language barrier – despite being an international brand, most of the staff do not speak English, so you have to rely on translation apps ✅ Pros: – Nice swimming pool, enjoyable to spend time at – Polite and helpful staff – Beautiful grounds – the property is not new, but it is well maintained 💬 Overall impression: The hotel has good fundamentals and potential, but the level of comfort and service does not match expectations from a Marriott property. There are critical issues that directly impact the stay – sleep quality, room condition, food variety, and communication. 📌 Conclusion: Only suitable for a very quiet, isolated stay if you don’t have high expectations. If good sleep, swimming, and service matter to you, it’s better to consider other options.

Pros: Good service and great staff at reception especially Alex Tse Nice festive atmosphere because of the specials offers at dinners( buffet seafood hotpot with all you can drink beer for a steal at 198 rmb, buffet BBQ, activities for the family especially kids. It's not a dead, sterile place. Great cocktails at the red sky bar lounge with great sea views from 2.30 to 5 pm even though service is slow because it is understaffed. They even have an afternoon tea service which I didn't try. Reasonable priced rooms and resort services- extra water and beer from in house dining for 2 and 10 RMB respectively and food prices are fairly priced too Cons: Packed with kids so not a serene environment especially at pool! Beach a bit dirty, sea rough so not easy to swim. No beach towels provided for the deck chairs. Breakfast sub par, not international. Only two coffee machines available. Room and toilet funky smelling Sea view room small and includes a view of the chaotic/ fun for kids pools
