If you're looking for a hotel with an absolutely breathtaking location, look no further than the JW Marriott Dadonghai Sanya. The sea views from my room were extraordinary! Don't be daunted by the size—this busy hotel runs like a well-oiled machine. I enjoyed the Executive Club. The staff were incredibly efficient (Selena ) and helpful with my planning, and the 5 PM happy hour was a feast! The location is perfect for water sports and exploring the many local restaurants (just note they cater heavily to the international, particularly Russian, tourist market). A word to the wise: hit breakfast before 9 AM to beat the crowds. Also, a huge shout-out to James ZHEN and Miss Sweet & Selena in the executive club & to the staff in Moto Miss Fay who went above and beyond to help me .I highly recommend this JW Marriott—just book a mid-week stay to enjoy a slightly quieter atmosphere.

My stay at JW Marriott Dadonghai Beach started off a bit complicated. I initially checked into a king room, but there was a problem with the air conditioning. The staff kindly moved me to another similar room, where the AC worked fine. Later, Lydia from the front desk went above and beyond — she upgraded me to a beautiful suite with an ocean view and a spacious balcony, completely turning my experience from a below-average one into an excellent stay. Even when I had an issue with my room dining order, Lydia handled it personally and made sure everything was resolved quickly and professionally. Her dedication and hospitality truly made a difference. The hotel facilities are amazing, and there was an event almost every day during my stay, which added a great vibe. I highly recommend JW Marriott Dadonghai Beach for its service, comfort, and beautiful views. One thing to note: like all hotels in the Dadonghai Beach area, there is **no direct beach access** — you’ll need to walk about 5–10 minutes to reach the beach.

“The most challenging place I have visited”

Spacious, luxourious and clean rooms, with daily cleaning service; however, our room view of the ocean was only visible if the curtains were drawn completely or we went out onto the balcony. The daily breakfast has huge variety and was the most expansive I’ve ever seen. Beware, smoking is accommodated within ALL AREAS of the hotel compound, in the rooms, grounds and pool areas. One day, our corridor had strong durian smells as did the 16th floor, it is an unmistakable odour and unpleasant for those that are not fans of the fruit (which are the majority)! I advocate that this is a major turnoff for a lot of western tourists. Do not try to be in touch with this hotel prior to arrival, they do not make any effort to correspond therefore you will not know if any of your requests are received. Most staff do not speak English however they will use translation apps in attempts to help but often information is lost in translation. The pool bar was never open during our 7 day stay (why advertise as having one when you do not open it). Not all of its restaurants are open for meals in the evening and the only dining option (we could find at the hotel) was the nightly BBQ at 228 yuan per person. Best to eat out of the resort at the nearby beach bars. The is NO BEACH at the resort, Dadonghai Beach is about a 15 minutes walk away and there are 3 zones which you can enter the water at and it is quite crowded. The pool is lovely but children are allowed into ALL PARTS of the pool with paddleboards, floatable blow ups, scuba gear, etc in a very unregulated and possibly un safe way. The hotel does not cater well for western tourists and caters mainly for the local Chinese and Russians. WeChat Pay is used widely and Wise and International credit cards are not used for purchases of goods or services at the hotel. Special mention to Nadiz who was a lovely and helpful member of the restaurant staff (who also spoke excellent English). On departure, we requested concierge to call us a taxi which I think they did through a ride share app and we gave cash to the concierge member and the funds are then passed onto the driver digitally. It was a very nice, smooth, comfortable and air conditioned ride. Very reasonable and much better value than the hotels dedicated 200 yuan Mercedes Benz service. Possibly the most challenging places I've visited (and I have been to a few!). Would I return, very unlikely as there are many, many beautiful resorts in many other parts of the world that do not have the above challenges for the western tourist. I doubt very much that the hotel cares in the slightest either.
