Oh the courses they served. Over a dozen. We asked for a menu to help us understand what we were eating. It was everything from watermelon, spinach, beef, shrimp, duck, chicken, dragon fruit to coconut custard. Hotel convenient to the local bay for beach and water sports.

“Musty smell and terrible internet”

I guess you would call it very good for Chinese standards but even then it was dated and had a musty smell throughout. The real problem was the hoops that you have to jump through to get the internet.

1. Location: main advantage of the hotel. Right at the beach and close to Dadonghai city centre. Extra plus is that the hotel has their own beach chairs with small lockers to safely store your valuables. 2. Room: looks like your grandparents bedroom where everything (apart from the tv) seems to date back from the late 80'ies and has not been renovated every since. Bed Matrasse so incredibly hard that it hurts your back. Walls very thin so you can hear your neighbors conversation. 3. Breakfast buffet: Chinese buffet with very few western options. 4. Service: apart from one unfriendly intern at the lobby, the rest of the staff was friendly and attentive. But their English is not that good so being able to speak Chinese is an advantage. In summary, Sanya Pearl River Garden hotel is an average hotel with a good location. It could have the potential to be an amazing hotel if they would do major renovations to the rooms. The hotel is good and affordable option if you are planning to just stay for 2 days, want to be close to the beach and do not really care about the room.

The location is very good if you are interest in a bit crowded place, the hotel location is at the bay which is one the most papular and public beaches in Sanya. I would not suggest to go there during Chinese public holiday as you may be annoyed by the crowed but in different time period is a good choice. The advantages of this hotel is that it is much cheaper than other hotels in the area and it has own beach part where they provide beds and locker for free and a guard who is looking after your belonging and also does not let anyone else use the hotel beds if they are not hotel guest. This is a good point because at the beach you need to rent those beds for 100RMB per day which is not advisable plus sometimes you do not want to sit at the beach the whole time so you will end up for paying 100RMB for maybe couple of hours. The other advantage is the area, basically there is everything in that area, there is a food court (2min walking) which opens around 5pm till late midnight with daily live music (same Philippine band for last 2 past years) (thank god they play different songs) and have 100 different types of seafood (bbq...) . we mainly spent our dinners at the food court which was very fun specially. On the other hand there is a mall (2min walking) with imported products (Quite pricey) but you can find whatever you need. for example one day we felt like eating a bit more western so we went there bought bread, salami ... and made our own sandwich which is a good meal in China ;). The big disadvantage is the ROOM. its old and smells,(you get used to it fast though). their rooms have a tendency to smell bit probably because of Air conditioning and also the hotel age (too old, but not boutique), but we found a solution for it but it depends on season you are going. In the hotel garden there are some beautiful white flowers with an amazing smell. we took some of those flowers (with respect to the flower but we had no other option) and put in our room and that was the end to the bad smell. Overal experience in short, If you are with kids > Not suitable at all. single> perfect, there are so many other travellers in the area, so for sure you will have fun. couple> it depends, need quite place to spend some romancing time > NO couple> you want have fun and some excitement, water sports, eat and drink till morning > Yes expecting high quality > NO Breakfast> NO, super chinese and cold Service> Okay (chinese standard) if you don't speak chinese then you have problem.
