“Five star hotel - not quite western standards”

Stayed here for a 2 week period on business. The room was large, bathroom spacious & balcony a decent size. WiFi has sporadic access. There’s a glorious opulent ceiling along the main corridor but if you look closer will notice wallpaper peeling & areas of damp. The cuisine was predominantly Asian despite being marketed as a western menu. Plenty of choice at breakfast. Unfortunately for me my room was directly above the refurbishment of the main entrance which made it incredibly noisy. There is a hot spring access & spa close by. Xianning is a 20 minute taxi drive away. Christian was a great asset on concierge & spoke good English, that couldn’t be said for the remaining staff. Having said that everyone was friendly & tried to be helpful.

Hotel Review: A Decent Stay with Outstanding Hot Springs The standout feature of this hotel is undoubtedly the nearby outdoor hot springs, which are absolutely outstanding. The experience was so delightful that it became the highlight of our trip and made up for the hotel’s shortcomings. The hotel itself, however, is average and shows its age. Renovations are clearly needed, especially for the drafty windows in the rooms, which make the indoor temperature uncomfortably chilly. It was odd to see many guests at breakfast and around the hotel dressed in down jackets. Be sure to pack warm clothing for inside the hotel and a waterproof jacket for the often rainy weather outside. The bedding is new, but the hard mattresses could be a challenge for side sleepers, potentially leading to soreness after a night’s rest. The heater fan in my room was noisy so it was hard to get a good night’s rest. The dining options are a mix of hits and misses. The Chinese food selection was decent, offering variety, but the western options were sparse—just fried eggs, sausage (no bacon), toast, coffee, and juice. Adding features like omelet stations or a waffle maker would be a welcome improvement. On the bright side, the fruit selection was fresh and delicious. Amenities like the swimming pool and executive lounge were unfortunately closed during our visit, and while there is a fun room for kids, it wasn’t enough to fully compensate for the limited available facilities. Overall, while the hotel has significant drawbacks, the superb hot springs make it worth considering if your focus is relaxation and outdoor enjoyment. If updates are made in the future, it has the potential to be a much better stay.

The hotel itself welcomes you with an interesting, rich painted lobby in classic European style a la China. The restaurant is nice with lot of daylight and great views of nature. My room was spacious and nice, but lacked cleanliness expected in Europe. The furniture was worn out a bit and construction flaws were visible in the room. Not in extent to bother too much, but still, in this level of hotel should not happen. The service was very nice, English was little spoken. The meeting rooms are nice, there was a lady from Morocco who spoke excellent English and cared about our wellbeing. Breakfast quality did not meet usual standard in this level of hotels in China. Xianning is only 25 minutes from Wuhan by high speed rail CRH and features local attraction - hot springs. There is a beautiful Tai-Chi temple at the hills, worth visiting.
