“Good hotel, confusing conference building”

I stayed at the hotel of the conference center (QuJiang Hotel) for four nights, for a conference. The hotel has four or five independent buildings, located around a small lake/pond - all are connected by a covered walkway. The walk is actually quite pleasant - around the water. If you are dragging a large suitcase, however, the short walkway could suddenly appear long! Along the walkway, a few places there are stairs - you would have to life the suitcase, or walk along an alternative slopped slippery boardwalk. The hotel room is typical four stars in north American standard - pretty good but nothing outstanding. The conference rooms are all inside the entrance building. Most rooms (except the big hall) are not tall, had bad sound insulations from the next door, and badly arranged.

“X'ian hotel”

There appears to be some confusion about the hotel I visited and another place near the sea ! The hotel I was at and wrote a review on was about 2 kilometers from the Big Wild Goose pagoda in X'ian and was not the one by the sea.

I stayed here because the conference I was attending was held in this place. Beside, attendees were also given a special rate of 480 yuan for a single room per night. However, the hotel is a disappointment even though it is considered to be a 4-5 star hotel. Here's why. Firstly, the room was ok. Not grand but just normal. Despite having 64 tv channels, only 3 channels are English based. There's no BBC news or CNN or any news channels. There's only National Geographic, Star Movies and Star World. The rest are all chinese programmes from their terrestrial stations. The reception was pretty bad too. There's frequent distortion when watching Star Movies. The bathtub stopper is dodgy too. The water kept leaking away and it is impossible to maintain the water level without turning off the tap. The wired LAN is very poor. Sometimes I cannot even connect to the internet. Even if I can, it was quite slow most of the time. There's no wi-fi in the rooms. There's only wi-fi in the lobby or the restaurants. But during crowded events like the conference, it is very difficult to get connected through wi-fi. I thought only my phone has the problem. But my friend confirmed that he is on the verge of throwing his phone away because he too can't get connected. The breakfast spread is also not fantastic. The food is average and most of it is the same everyday. It's not something that I look forward to every morning. This hotel is not very well known too. 1 taxi driver didn't know about this place. Another driver took me to another hotel with a somewhat similar name, which coincidentally is just beside this hotel and looks much grander from the outside and have a more impressive lobby. Generally, my recommendation is this: Tourists, don't stay here because it is too far from the main attractions and not worth it. For people attending the conference held here, you are better off staying at the adjacent hotel. If you need to stay here, then don't get your hopes too high. Expect more like a 3 star hotel and you will not be too disappointed.
