Rooms are spacious. We experienced three different room types. Double Queen City, King City and Tianfu King. Tianfu King was probably the nicest but all were really great. Housekeeping was on top of it, stopping by multiple times per day to replenish water, towels and toiletries. We enjoyed some wine, drinks and snacks in Peacock Alley which is sort of a cocktail bar. We also had drinks and food in Sip51 which is a slightly elevated cocktail bar vibe in comparison, though both were elegant. I highly recommend the food at Infinite Luck which is their fine dining Asian fare restaurant, mentioned in the Michelin Guide. Try the Pigeon! Breakfast buffet at Brasserie has a good variety and was free with Diamond Hilton status. We especially enjoyed the fresh juice and hand made pork bun. On our last day we left early and they provided us a take away breakfast to pick up before kitchen hours when we asked the night before. The concierge was extremely helpful with calling a car, explaining things we needed clarified about the area, and providing great recommendations!! There is also a Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, pool, salt room and gym for hotel guest use, all very nice. My tips: Make sure to have your own phone and internet set up before leaving the airport, and ask the concierge which apps you need asap. This area highly depends on electronic payment. Getting around by taxi requires some steps in advance unless you want to carry cash. I don’t think we ever presented our actual credit card to anyone aside from room deposit. Google does not work here. Not very many people speak English at all and if they do, it’s not well. So communication can be difficult. I was traveling with others who spoke mandarin so we were ok, but if I were there on my own, it would have been very hard. Another reason to make sure you have your data set up for a translation app. I found the hotel WiFi to be spotty. Make sure you have your Visa, Americans need a Visa! Also, when leaving Chengdu, leave with plenty of time to get to the airport. Traffic can be crazy and the airport is very busy at times. We actually missed our flight and had to stay another day. Learn from my mistake!

Life is a compilation of defining moments. Some arrive quietly, yet they remain with us because of the people and experiences that shaped them. My stay at Waldorf Astoria Chengdu became one such moment. Even before arrival, communication was thoughtful and well organised. Coordination was clear, responses were prompt and arrangements were handled in a way that allowed my schedule to remain flexible despite the tight timeframe of the trip. In luxury hospitality, service is defined by unhurried efficiency, grace and the beauty with which experiences are presented. Throughout the stay, it was evident that the teams understood this philosophy. Whether through the preparation of the room, the presentation of dining experiences or the atmosphere of the lounge spaces, each element reflected this shared understanding. Behind this experience was a remarkable level of operational coordination. My schedule shifted repeatedly, dinner arrangements required adjustment late in the evening, delivery enquiries had to be addressed and an early morning departure required swift preparation for breakfast. Each of these moments involved different departments communicating quickly and responding with precision. What impressed me most was that none of this complexity was ever visible to the guest. The teams managed these situations quietly and ensured that the experience remained seamless from beginning to end. To me, a Waldorf Astoria experience is defined by emotional intelligence and confidence. It is the ability of a team to understand context, coordinate across departments and deliver service with elegance and composure. During this visit, I experienced exactly that. Achieving this level of coordination, particularly when requests arise under time pressure, requires capable teams and experienced leadership. I would therefore like to extend my appreciation to General Manager Mr Fabien Gastinel. Leading Waldorf Astoria Chengdu while upholding the heritage of the Waldorf Astoria brand requires a highly skilled and experienced hotelier who can inspire a team with clarity and precision while preserving the refined culture associated with the brand. The composure, responsiveness and professionalism demonstrated throughout my stay reflect that leadership clearly. Life is indeed a compilation of defining moments, and I am grateful that Waldorf Astoria Chengdu has helped shape one of them for me. “It was a very pleasant stay”

It was a very pleasant stay. The concierge was very friendly, especially Alex and Oliveira who took the initiative to help me with my luggage.

Our first impression of this beautiful hotel wasn't the best, as the lovely corner room we had been assigned smelled like smoke and we had to ask for a change. The next room was fine, but not as special. In the room, the bed was a little soft for my taste, but the shower was good, as was the bathroom and closet space. The elevator situation can be confusing since you have to change elevators depending on where you want to go in the hotel. The rooftop bar was closed when we were there so we had a drink in the lobby lounge, which was lovely. The music in the regular bar was so loud that nobody was in there. The food in the restaurant was outstanding, perhaps since the chef (as we understand it) was American. It was a nice respite from days of Chinese cuisine. The breakfast buffet selection was weak if you didn't want Chinese food. The staff spoke little English so getting a cafe Americano or a glass of water never happened.
