We really enjoyed this place. My one concern before our stay was that the property would be too isolated but that turned out not to be the case. The area around the hotel is lovely, with access to the big lake and promenade, and lots of interesting wetlands and green areas nearby. There are also various restaurants within walking distance so there is no need to go all the way into the city center and we found the area very relaxing. The mild Kunming weather and beautiful setting made this a great place to unwind from the typical Chinese big city experience. We upgraded to a huge and luxurious suite with outdoor private geothermal pool as well as a large indoor bathtub and everything you might need for a restful holiday, really more the size of an apartment than a hotel room. This also included lounge access which was very convenient. Staff at the lounge was very friendly but always seemed a bit understaffed and trying to keep up with things. Also, in the lounge as well as at breakfast in the restaurant, getting vegetarian food was a bit challenging. They put meat or fish in most dishes. I asked whether they could prepare a hot dish for vegetarians (and even prompted them with suggestions like tofu) but after a long wait, they brought out only a bowl of plain steamed broccoli. Most five star lounges I've been to do manage to provide vegetarian options routinely or upon request even in China. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection, but again it would have been more enjoyable for me if there was a better choice of items for vegetarians, or at least clear labeling showing what is in the dish. For example, one morning they had "eggplant in soy sauce" but what that really meant (as I found out after taking a lot on my plate) is eggplant and pork sauce. This may not be an issue for for most carnivorous guests but just pointing it out as an area of possible improvement for the hotel. Staff at the front desk was excellent and they had a completely separate dedicated section for IHG members. The whole facility and the rooms are beautiful and I can't rate this place less than five stars in spite of my suggestions about food offerings. We enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hestitate to return.

A sprawling hotel with odd structure that necessitates 100s of meters of walks to access your room or to access the lobby from your room. A patently domestic hotel masquerading as an International chain. A sprawling hotel with odd structure that necessitates 100s of meters of walks to access your room or to access the lobby from your room. On average one budgeted 7-8 mins of walking from Block 7 to the lobby. Ridiculous. Staff has no working knowledge of English except for some of the staff at the reception. In room dining — room service —- won’t take my calls as they couldn’t speak English and with the QR code not working, had a sleep on an empty stomach a few night. Guest’ priority number doesn’t respond after 10 pm. The Market restaurant is average at best with a weak buffet spread and equally bad a la carte options and quality. Was forced to stay there due to a conference. Would not want to return.

We had a room with a balcony with a nice view of Dianchi. A resort concept hotel. The entire hotel is a bit dated. The room is spacious. Although the room looks clean, the toilet bowl area smells of urine. The washrooms in the common area are even worse there were stains all around. Food at the club lounge are cold most of the time. Breakfast has both Asian and western selections, average quality. The organization of the buffet is poor. Fruits and fresh juices are hidden in a corner. Most of the food are not hot. Seems like all the staffs are not well trained. During the busy hour, they walked past our table numerous time but didn't clear the used plates, drinks orders were not attended. The supervisors/managers are just standing around chatting, the kitchen staff looked so stress preparing the breakfast. It's just poor management. Some food items that can be prepared in advance, they are just doing it on the spot, e.g like wrapping the dumpling (饺子). I was thinking perhaps preparing it fresh taste better, unfortunately it's not. The fried Chinese dough (油条）section, a must have dish for breakfast looks horrible. It actually taste good but not much attention is placed in making it. Most of it are not fluffy. Breakfast was a very unpleasant experience. The services at the front desk, concierge, baggage service and the club lounge are very good. Warm friendly and patience.
