My 2 girlfriends and I just returned from a 4 day stay at the Villa Ruzmarina. We were there during the last few days of the season. It was quiet, and lovely. We are already looking forward to our return. Tips for fellow travelers: -We had a comical, yet difficult time finding the property. 'Villa Ruzmarina' is not written anywhere. We did not ask for directions initially because we had GPS. It doesn't exist on GPS, ask for directions. -Rent a car that can handle rough terrain, and steep inclines. We had a Clio, which was capable, but not really. Every village is at the bottom of a very steep, winding road that is narrow and roughly paved. Highly interesting, but a more comfortable and capable car would have helped. -There are over 250 stairs to the amazing little private beach. Use the bathroom before you go, bring drinks and snacks with you, and inform older visitors before they book. -The chairs, umbrellas, equipment, etc. could use a little love. Perhaps it was the end of the season, but many things were broken or worn. They were, however, mostly still usable. -The rooms are apartments, not hotel rooms. Towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, toilet paper, and a fully stocked kitchen are provided. You should bring anything else with you, and expect to keep your room clean on your own. The price value is incredible. The view alone is priceless, rain or shine. The restaurant and market at the top of the hill are quaint, and perfect. The people overall in the area are multi-lingual, and extremely friendly and helpful. The private beach with it's crystal clear aqua-marine water is simply heavenly. What a treat. Thank you, Family Zuzul for providing a truly delightful secret hideaway for those of us needing a break. They have another property called Villa Divina I think that we will take a look at this also. :-)

“Visit whilst it's still quiet!”

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Central Dalmatia staying at Villa Ruzmarina, a private villa split into well appointed apartments overlooking the neighbouring island of Brac. The coastline in Croatia is stunningly pretty being made up of thousands of coves and inlets, rimmed by white shingle/pebble beaches leading to the crystal clear turquoise sea. The nearby islands are serviced by regular ferries and boat excursions and make for enjoyable day trips. If you're lucky, you may see dolphins. We saw them from the boat and then on 3 consecutive mornings from our balcony! Having travelled around Italy at the same time last year we were struck by how few tourists there were around, the friendliness of the Croatians and how clean the country is. We flew into Split airport which is quite new and easy to navigate and driving in the country is easy too with the roads being well marked. The further south you travel towards Dubrovnik, the more spectacular the scenery. Croatia is clearly still rebuilding its tourist industry but it won't take long for the hoards to catch on so get there soon!

Positives Really great views of the sea, countryside, and Islands, pleasant staff, apartments nicely equipped and modern in design with a nice shower room, private small pebble beach, lovely clear sea, car parking is provided. There are two restaurants and a small supermarket close by. We particularly liked the Maris restaurant, a wide choice of food on the menu and very nice, friendly staff. Negatives Access to the villa is down a long, narrow (room for only one car), very steep, rough concrete road, the parking is also very limited, particularly if all the apartments are occupied, there is an overflow car park near the top of the road. We were in a top floor apartment and while very nice with great views, at times we had no water, water pressure is very poor and often we had no hot water, we did report this, but it remained a problem during our stay. Another problem was it was very windy during our stay and various apparatus on the roof were vibrating and rattling so much we couldn't sleep for the noise, also fearing they might come crashing through the roof. In fact, a workman was called to try and secure this apparatus, but the rattling continued. We found the apartment building on the whole very noisy. The Beach There is a small private pebble beach, so it can get busy, (we found all the beaches were very busy in the area) this is accessed via a very steep decline, down MANY steps, a high degree of physical fitness and mobility is certainly required. I guess the bottom line is would we stay there again? And despite a number of positives, the answer would be no.
