My best friend and I decided last minute to do a trip to the Krka Waterfalls in November 2015 and decided to stay the night at Vila Barbara. The apartment was fantastic, very comfortable (and warm, considering the chilly time of year!). Barbara and her husband were also fantastic in helping us deal with a public transportation issue. We needed to be back in Split the evening after our hike by a specific time (friend had to catch a flight) and having checked bus schedules online, expected to be jumping on a bus from the center of Skradin town back to Split. As we were settling our bill with Barbara, we casually mentioned our bus, and she was quick to note that, given the time of year and day, it was highly unlikely the bus would come to town. She was fast-thinking, made a few calls, and before we knew it, she and her husband were driving us up to the highway toll booth where they managed to get the bus driver to agree to stop for a second to let us on board. It was a wonderful, crazy adventure, and if it wasn't for this great couple, my friend would have missed her flight. Thank you Vila Barbara!

“Great views, good location.”

Booked this last minute as 2 others had cancelled/ miss-sold to us but in the end we think we ended up with the best apartment. Barbara and her mum are really nice people and were very proud of the furniture in the apartment as it came from Dubrovnic old town and (if we understood correctly) it came from her grand mother or great grandmother from the 1800's. Views from the balcony are probably some of the best in Mlini, and are amazing. The apartment we had (Spirit of past centuries) is fine but not over large. Bedroom is a good size but the furniture dominates the room as the bed is huuuuuge! There was a flat screen TV in the room but we never switched it on so we cannot comment on it. Furniture as stated is from the 1800's and quite large, with 2 wardrobes, an enormous double bed, side tables and dresser. Bathroom was a little small but adequate for what you need on holiday. Kitchen was a reasonable size, small (2 ring) stove (no oven) sink and fridge with a little freezer built in. Table with 3 chairs and a side table. A small hall linked the 3 rooms. Balcony was a good size (apartment is on top floor on right hand end looking outwards) and they are now separate from the other apartments balconies with a steel frame and a canvas screen stitched to this frame. The apartment is basic but the bed is very comfortable, the aircon works well and is very quiet. It could do with a freshen up (laminate floors had a few gaps that need tightening up, kitchen cupboard doors need adjusting, and bathroom tiles have a fair few cracks in the glaze) but it is very clean and perfectly adequate. Towels & linen changed weekly - though towels could be a little larger. Other apartments in the same building that are newer are a lot smarter so maybe these ones will be refurbished in the near future. The walk to the local beach is approx 1/4 mile down 111 steps through the local woodland (about 5 mins walk) to the beach by the Hotel Asteria. The opposite end of Mlini is about a mile and takes about 15 mins to walk. The walk back up the steps will get you fairly warm! so a cold shower when you get back is essential! We walked back late at night every night, the path is unlit so you need to let your eyes get good night vision if you dont pack a torch (we didn't) but the moonlight is adequate to see where you are going for 90% of thr route. Pros; reasonable price, clean, friendly owners ( they drove us to a restuarant one night & offered to drive us to supermarket) fantastic views across the bay, comfortable bed, good air con & WiFi. Cons; On outskirts of town and lots of steps to beach - so no good for infirm or unfit people. No local supermarkets or shops (Mlini is unusual in that there were almost NO shops at all?! strange!) Apartment a little tired in places (as mentioned above). Overall, we enjoyed our stay and if we came back to Mlini we would consider staying here again. This (in our opinion) is the nicer end of Mlini away from the main town & noisier bars.

“Pretty Basic”

We stayed in the Villa Barbara outside of Dubrovnik for three nights on a self-guided bicycle tour of Croatia. It was a simple apartment priced at the low end of rooms that met our basic needs which included being close to a beach and handy to public transportation to Dubrovnik. The biggest detractor was that we noisy neighbors on either side of us with whom we had to share a common patio. They brought a TV outdoors and had young children who played loudly till 10PM. The TV started again early in the morning and due to thin walls between the units sounded as if it was in our room. It would have been nicer to have had an upstairs room with private balcony. Villa Barbara sits adjacent to two other houses on the outskirts of town. There was a nice peaceful view. Due to lack of a direct path, the walk to the beach was nearly a mile. The nearest restaurants were two thirds of a mile; the beachfront restaurants and groceries were a bit over a mile. Public transportation stopped one third of a mile away. The apartment was simple, a bit dated, lacking some convenient details, and on the small side. We were challenged to walk around after placing two large duffels on the floor. There was a small table, organizer unit in the headboard, and spare bed [un-needed since we were two, not three]. There was a new-looking and innovative stove, sink, refrigerator combination in the kitchen. Villa Barbara supplied sufficient pots, pans, and utensils; but there was only one cereal bowl. There were no paper towels or dish clothes. The only waste basket was in the bathroom which we quickly filled with kitchen waste. There was a wardrobe to hang clothes, but only three hangers. Our room had a small flat screen TV. The apartment and the kitchen and the bathroom were all quite clean. The internet worked well. There was one outage from which Villa Barbara recovered well. The property is convenient to bus #10 & 16 which take you to city. We advise getting some help with the bus schedule as we had difficulty interpreting it. We also advise determining in advance where in Dubrovnik one can embark and disembark [they are not necessarily the same place]. Our host was friendly and helpful. She told us where everything was located and answered all questions that we asked. She arranged for a taxi [which showed up exactly on time] for an early trip to the airport. While in Mlini, we walked around and observed the privacy & location of various apartments. There were many appealing looking properties and if they had advertised on Trip Advisor, Booking.com, or Google, we might well have chosen elsewhere. Mlini downtown looked especially nice.
