“Good location”

Large room, excellent location right by the Old Town. Basic breakfast. Staff could please smile a bit more, there was hardly a friendly welcome.

I was a bit nervous about this stay after reading some of the eviews here but we actually really enjoyed it. This is a true Character Property with interesting architecture. It really feels like you are staying in old Prague, it is built into a preserved building and maintains historical features. We were given Room 3 which was huge, and I think was actually an upgrade from what we had paid. The wooden decorated ceiling was amazing. It was also very warm for such an old building. The shower was also hot and powerful. Everything was clean. There are some signs of the propertys age such as cracks in the sink but that didn't bother us, it just added to the character. I have seen negative reviews about the lack of lift to the rooms. The booking information on Expedia/Booking.com made it very clear there was no lift so in my opinion that is the customers responsibility to do their research and read the information thoroughly. The hotel is in a grade listed building, with historical features maintained, of course there is no lift. Our room, Room 3, was up two flights of stairs. This wasn't an issue for us - we have two flights of stairs at home! I have also seen negative reviews about being able to hear other people walking around on the floor above you or in the hallways - again, please understand that this is a character property and to be expected in a building of this age. Its not as if you can hear people's conversations or TV etc. I've taken one point off my review because the mattresses need replacing. The bed was made up of two single mattresses both of which were sagging/flattened in the middle and you could feel the bedframe. This resulted in some aches and pains. But we were only there 4 nights and are young so it didn't cause too much issue. But updating/modernising the mattresses wouldn't ruin the historical atmosphere, so I would advise the hotel to consider doing this. We did not make use of the breakfast because we were eating out a lot, so I can't comment on that. The location of the hotel is perfect being around the corner from Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock. It was ideal for the Christmas Market. There are lots of good shops and restaurants nearby. We didn't need to use any public transport as everything we wanted to see, including Charles Bridge and Prague Castle, were within walking distance (about 20 minutes to the castle). Despite the central location it is not noisy at night or in the morning. A couple of other things to mention - I got in touch with the hotel the day before we arrived to let them know our arrival time and they offered to book us a taxi from the airport, which we accepted, and this all went smoothly. Reception staff were curteous but not overly interested in us which could be interpreted as "rude" by some foreigners but this is just the culture, we found the Czech people to be similar everywhere. Also on our arrival, the hotel did take full bank card details down in writing including Number, CVC, and Expiry Date which I saw a few negative reviews about. I understand this to be in case they find you did any damage after you've checked out, so that they can charge you for any damages. I haven't had any abnormal or unexpected card charges so I trust it is all legitimate. Overall a great stay and we would use this hotel for a short stay again.

We stayed here for week in August. It’s a 500yr old building and has its pros and cons. Here’s a summary Pros: Location - this hotel is literally connected to the building complex on the backside of the astronomical clock. It is right in the middle or old town Cons: Age - it’s 500 years old. I think our mattress may have been 500yrs old. Continental Breakfast - pretty sparse by most standards Stairs - there’s two wings. Our wing was accessed by a door outside that’s next to outdoor dining. The spiral stairs to the room are very narrow and steep - glad we only brought carryons as larger luggage would be a hassle going up the stairs. AC - like many of the older hotels, there isn’t any. Thankfully we had very mild weather for August, otherwise it would have been difficult to sleep. .

Absolutely fantastic location at a fair price. There is definitely old world charm and each room is unique. On the downside, the beds were rock hard and terribly uncomfortable. The lack of a decent night’s sleep impacted our visit. The breakfast is very basic (hard rolls, deli meats, soft packaged cheese, Nescafé espresso, orange juice). There was a rumor of a hot item but we were not offered it. We are breakfast at nearby restaurants after the first day.
