Pleasant hotel in an old Danish mansion/farm estate. Can be accessed from the Horsens rail station via the lovely Bygholm Park, a very nice little stroll of about 15 minutes, but not good with wheeled luggage. Not otherwise accessible by mass transit, but plenty of parking. Rooms are small and basic but very clean. Excellent and extensive breakfast is included in all bookings - both hot and cold dishes, good selection of cheeses, fruits, and yoghurts. Dinner onsite was good but expensive, and there is nothing else nearby. Bizarre check-in procedure, even for prepaid bookings - you have to type all your info into an iPad. Annoying. Most of the customers appear to be business groups on out-of-the-office conferences, plus a few older couples. Staff is friendly and well-trained. A good experience.

This hotel is based around what seems to be a former stately home. My room was a little on the small side (tip- don’t get a first floor room in the main building as they are built into a Mansard roof) but adequately equipped. Guests staying more than one night are told their room will only be cleaned on request. The reception staff were all delightful, helpful and professional. They lifted my assessment from 3/5 to 4/5. The breakfast buffet was good - including waffles and a machine that keeps boiled eggs soft but hot - I’d love to know how it works. I would return due to the location - set in a magnificent park and a ten minute walk from the station. And due to the boiled egg machine.

“Not what I anticipated”

Somewhat disappointed with the basic rooms after looking at this beautiful building from the outside. I booked a superior room, but fail to spot what exactly was superior about it? Somewhat disappointed with the basic rooms after looking at this beautiful building from the outside. I booked a superior room, but fail to spot what exactly was superior about it? Very basic looking, single beds pushed together and you had to leave the room to find a coffee making facilities. The setting of the place is really good with some nice grounds to walk in and breakfast was decent. Nothing much else to say in honesty. Such a shame!

The hotel was great because of the location (easily accesible, walking distance through park to the city), building/rooms inside (renovated, modern, tidy, clean) and outside (classic historical looks) and facilities like the gym, watercooker in the room, terrace with view on the park. Because of all this we would likely return when visiting Denmark again. But the downside for us was feeling like second class guests, because except for one day (during our 7-day stay) there were meetings/conferences. Breakfast was very busy and noisy and it felt weird to sit between people who all seemed to know each other. Also the staff was focused on the pc at the reception, the groups and their wellbeing instead of asking/talking something small like 'How is your holiday?' or 'Have a great day'. We had some questions about public transport, but because of the above we asked them at other places. We could enter and leave without being noticed and that's not what I have in mind when staying as a guest in a hotel. So the hotel and the environment are excellent to stay at, but our experience around that was unfortunately a bit less.
