“Always good Especially in the Summer”

During the summer months the hotel with its outdoor seating area is at its best looking out over the sea. The receptionist is always nice and polite and the breakfast is good. I have never eaten in the restaurant for dinner preferring a walk into town where there are a few good places to eat. The room are functional with the normal Nordic strange arrangement of a small square pillow and a duvet that just covers the bed. In the summer though the rooms get quite hot at night even with all windows open. You can walk/run around the lake/sea which is very pleasant in the morning or early evening as the sun sets.

The hotel is in a nice location and close the the Fjord which provided a nice stroll along in the late afternoon after work. My room was adequate in size but the bathroom was old and the shower curtain was badly stained at the bottom - bit off-putting. That said, the shower was really good with lots of hot water so no complaints on that score. The hotel is very basic and badly needs renovating. There was never anyone on reception when I got back to the hotel at approximately 5.30pm which was surprising and I had to book a table in the restaurant online from my room. On appearing in the restaurant at the allotted time, I was forced to wait 20 minutes just to get a drink as they had a large party going on and were very short staffed. The manager was very pleasant and did her best and I was accommodated and the food was excellent but wow so expensive - as were the drinks! I didn't eat there again for the following 3 nights as a consequence - shame really as the food really was good. The most disappointing for me was the fact that they do not service your room unless you ask. I did mention this when I checked out and was told very firmly that they make it clear that is for sustainability reasons. I am not sure how making a bed, emptying bins and checking on loo roll/coffee quantities has anything to do with sustainability but there ya go. I was told that they make it clear both in the elevators and on the room card that this is pointed out. Given I didn't use the elevator nor did I have a room card (I only had a code to get into my room), I was not aware of this - there is nothing in the room itself and I've checked on the website since and cannot locate any such notice, so you'd think they would make it clearer for everyone. Overall for me, it had the feel of a hostel and not an hotel which is fine if you were not paying hotel prices - definitely better elsewhere. I think it is a shame as it could be really nice but given I will be in Denmark for some months now, I will not be returning unless it is the only option. I much prefer the Sidesporet Hotel where they do service your room and are very attentive to all guests.
