Amazingly, 1 May till 10 November is considered by this hotel to be "high season". However, when we were there in mid May the pool was not yet open (although the weather was fine and warm) and both restaurants were only open some of the time. The hotel's bistro was not available in the evenings, only the much more expensive restaurant. We were given the impression the hotel was full but,in fact, there were barely any other people staying. Although we had requested it, we were not able to get a room with a shower cubicle, only one with a shower over the bath. This was, we were told, because all the rooms with shower cubicles had been taken - and yet the hotel was not full! There were only five tables occupied at breakfast. Breakfast was very disappointing and - at 16 euros per person - poor value for money. The coffee was undrinkable. Dinner, if you wanted to eat at the hotel's so called better restaurant, was exorbitantly expensive so we gave it a miss. Our room was spacious but with shabby decor. It badly needed redecorating. The wallpaper was torn in some places and there were marks on the walls. When we commented at reception about the state of the hotel we were told it was because it was old. But actually it wasn't. It just needed a bit of looking after - it was,we felt, neglected and could so easily have been improved and made nicer. Our room had a separate loo which could have been a bonus but it was extremely small and cramped. So much so, that one needed to use it with the door open! It was airless and had no fan. There was actually a foul odour which we complained about. The toilet had yellow stains from urine on both sides of the loo seat (hence the smell probably) and the porcelain was cracked at the back. It was a disgrace and should have been replaced years ago. The toilet paper provided was very poor quality - the kind one used to see in public toilets years ago. Although we told the staff about the state of the loo, it was not properly cleaned. The loo seat really should have been completely replaced while we were there. Had we not paid in advance through booking.com we would have left and gone elsewhere. Coffee and drinks in the hotel were very expensive - more than we have paid in 5* hotels! There was no tea or coffee provided in one's room. However, along the corridor was a room with a kettle and one cup and saucer provided! This room also had an iron and ironing board. This amenity - one assumes - was meant for all the people on that floor! The one good thing was that we had was a nice big terrace with a lovely view of the lake although the chairs provided were quite shabby and there was no table. The hotel corridors were dark and dismal. The whole place needed some TLC. One just felt that it was neglected and crying out for some attention. We felt that with a less mean attitude that this could be a fine hotel. We would not wish to stay there again and would certainly not recommend it.

We stayed in this hotel on 30th December half board , we picked it as it came across as a "foodie hotel " and this is why I was disappointed. Our evening meal was nice but nothing special , it was a set meal and good value. The surprise when we came to pay the bill , we had a glass of champagne with a touch of sherry in and were charged 16 euros each and we had tap water out of a pump at the (bottle) and again changed 4.65 euro . Finally breakfast was cold meats and cheese etc, once it has gone they don't restock with more . So you need to get down early or go hungry!! . The staff are lovely and we had a lake view room , which was a lovely view. But overall disappointed for the price we paid !!!!!
