The biggest strength of the Mercure Annecy Centre is, without question, its location. Just a few minutes’ walk from both the train and bus stations, and equally close to the Old Town, the lake and its postcard views, it’s perfectly positioned for exploring Annecy on foot. Restaurants, small supermarkets and shops surround the hotel, making it convenient whether you’re staying one night or a long weekend. The lobby strikes a pleasant balance: cosy yet modern, with a boutique feel rather than a corporate one. Check-in was efficient and friendly, though slightly underwhelming given my loyalty status. I wasn’t proactively offered an upgrade despite availability still showing online. The explanation was that the hotel was fully booked, which I accepted… initially. The standard room had clearly been refreshed in recent years. The colour palette was calming, the décor tasteful but minimalist. A central bed faced a large flat-screen TV, and there was a small round table with a pouffe-style seat alongside an open wardrobe area incorporating tea and coffee facilities. Everything felt clean and contemporary. However, space was tight. There wasn’t much room around the bed, and the bathroom, though sleek and modern, was extremely compact. Functional, yes. Spacious, no. The room featured a small balcony overlooking the main street. It was pleasant to step out onto, but really only standing room. A fold-away chair was provided, though there wasn’t much opportunity to use it meaningfully. After a stroll around town, I returned to reception and gently revisited the upgrade discussion. This time, success. The Privilege room was noticeably more spacious and immediately more comfortable, even if the décor leaned slightly more traditional. The added touches made a difference: Nespresso machine, mini fridge with complimentary drinks, robes, a proper wardrobe with safe, and ironing facilities. The bathroom was a significant upgrade, larger, modern, with a generous walk-in shower and a separate toilet room. The view overlooked an internal courtyard, so nothing memorable there, but the additional space and amenities more than compensated. Air conditioning was effective and easy to adjust. The TV was a good size and supported streaming platforms such as YouTube and Netflix. Wi-Fi was simple: free access without login, or enhanced speeds through an Accor account. Using the high-speed option, I consistently recorded around 30 Mbps, more than adequate for work or streaming. Overall, Mercure Annecy Centre delivers a reliable, comfortable stay in an unbeatable central location. Not all rooms are created equal, and if you value space, it may be worth considering an upgrade from the outset. The staff were polite and professional throughout, and the essentials are well covered.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, which made for a pleasant stay overall. However, the service left a lot to be desired. Communication was quite difficult since I don’t speak French, although I could tell the staff were genuinely doing their best to help despite the language barrier. Unfortunately, the breakfast was extremely disappointing. The coffee from the machine tasted poor, and the pre-made meal prepared for our school group included only three croissants and a single piece of bread — one of the simplest and least satisfying breakfasts I’ve ever had. With some improvement in food quality and service, this hotel could be much better.
