We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel d’Angleterre Saint-Germain-des-Prés! From the moment we arrived, everyone on the staff was so kind, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. A special thank you to Milan, who truly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. He was so thoughtful, attentive, and genuinely cared that we had the best experience possible. His kindness made our trip even more memorable. The hotel itself is absolutely adorable. so charming, cozy, and full of Parisian character. It was also spotless, and you can tell they take great pride in keeping everything clean and well-maintained. The location couldn’t have been more perfect. We loved being in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, with so many wonderful cafés, shops, and beautiful streets just steps away. If you’re looking for a boutique hotel with exceptional service, charm, and an amazing location, I can’t recommend Hotel d’Angleterre enough. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here from July 1–6. If you’re looking for a modern, cookie-cutter hotel, this isn’t it. But if you appreciate the history and charm of a classic Parisian building with spacious rooms, a beautiful courtyard, and exceptional staff, this hotel is well worth considering. Staff ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The staff were outstanding. Everyone—from the front desk to housekeeping—was warm, welcoming, and genuinely eager to help. A special thank you to Moses on the overnight shift, who always greeted us warmly when we returned late and had a cheerful “Bonjour” each morning before heading home. One staff member even sketched a walking map so we could pick up takeaway pizza and enjoy it in the courtyard with drinks from the hotel bar. Any request we had was handled quickly and graciously. Common Areas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The hotel feels more like an elegant Parisian home than a traditional hotel. The décor and quiet garden courtyard create a relaxing atmosphere that perfectly complements the charm of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Breakfast could be enjoyed either indoors or in the courtyard, which quickly became one of our favorite places to unwind after a day of sightseeing. Yes, the elevator is small—just big enough for one person and a suitcase—but that’s completely normal in many historic Paris hotels and simply adds to the building’s charm. No worries, though—the staff will gladly assist with luggage if needed. The staircase is wide and features an elegant chandelier and a large mirror at the bottom landing for any last minute checks before you head out. While the stair treads aren’t perfectly level, that’s simply part of the building’s historic character and charm as well. Some reviewers have mentioned that parts of the hotel could use a fresh coat of paint. That may be true, but like Paris itself, if you’re only looking for imperfections instead of appreciating the history and character around you, you’re missing the bigger picture. Location ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The location is exceptional. We easily walked to the Seine, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Luxembourg Gardens, the Latin Quarter, Église Saint-Sulpice, and Notre-Dame. The Metro is only a block away, a bus stop is just around the corner, and the neighborhood is filled with wonderful cafés, restaurants, boutiques, and antique shops. We especially recommend Le Pré aux Clercs on the corner of Rue Bonaparte. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, and the staff were fantastic. We enjoyed dinner there twice and returned one evening to watch a France World Cup match with them over drinks. Breakfast ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Breakfast was always very good. A fresh assortment of options-including fruit, cereals, baguettes, croissants, pain au chocolat, toast, local jams, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea, and an excellent selection of French cheeses and meats. Tip: If you’d like eggs, simply ask. They aren’t on the buffet, but the staff will happily prepare them fresh. Room 19 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can only comment on Room 19, our Superior Room. It was spacious, with approximately 12-foot ceilings. It featured antique-styles furnishings, including two nightstands, a tall wardrobe with a safe, a five-drawer dresser with a mirror, a small desk and chair, and two large leather armchairs with a round table positioned between two large windows overlooking the courtyard. The bed was large and exceptionally comfortable, although it sat quite low to the floor, which might be challenging for guests with mobility issues to get in and out of. One thing to know before booking: the hotel does not have air conditioning. During our stay, daytime temperatures ranged from 76°–92°F, but because our room never received direct afternoon sun, the two provided fans and the cooler nighttime temperatures (58°–67°F) kept us reasonably comfortable. If you absolutely require air conditioning, however, this hotel may not be the best fit for you, unless of course, you go during non-summer months. Why It Wasn’t Quite Five Stars The first issue was minor. There wasn’t an iron in the room, but the front desk quickly loaned us one along with a small tabletop ironing board. Unfortunately, the bed sat too low to use the board comfortably, so we had to clear off the desk to iron our clothes. This could easily be improved by providing a standard folding ironing board inside the wardrobe along with a dedicated iron. The second was the small size of the separate toilet closet. Initially, it seemed odd to have to use the toilet in a small closet compartment and then walk across the room to the bathroom to wash our hands. However, after a couple of days, we realized this arrangement actually worked well. One person could shower or get ready in the larger bathroom while the other used the toilet, making mornings much easier and saving us time while getting ready. It ended up being something we appreciated. However, our two real complaints involved the size of the toilet closet and the bathtub height. The Toilet Closet The toilet compartment was extremely small (roughly 3’ × 4’, if that). At 6’2” and 220 pounds, my knees nearly touched the door while sitting, it was hot with no ventilation, and I even bumped my forehead on the door twice while leaning forward to stand up. This was the biggest reason I couldn’t give the hotel five stars. If you’re a larger person, I’d recommend asking about the bathroom layout of other rooms before booking. During the first day of our stay, I nearly allowed this issue to overshadow everything that was good about the hotel. Fortunately, I eventually accepted it after discussing it with the front desk. I’m not sure there’s an easy solution, although replacing the tub with a walk-in shower might create enough room to allow for a toilet in the larger bathroom. The Bathtub The bathroom itself is spacious, bright, and has excellent water pressure. The problem is the bathtub. It sits unusually high off the floor, making it somewhat difficult to enter and exit, especially for older guests or anyone with mobility issues. There are no sturdy grab bars to assist when entering or exiting the tub, and the tub floor becomes very slippery when wet because there is no non-slip surface. This was the only time during our stay that we felt genuinely unsafe. I hope the hotel eventually considers replacing the tub with a walk-in shower or, at the very least, installs proper grab bars and non-slip protection before someone is seriously injured. Overall Despite those two concerns, we had a wonderful stay. The location, spacious room, peaceful courtyard, excellent breakfast, and truly exceptional staff far outweighed the drawbacks and made this a memorable stay. We would absolutely consider staying here again. However, before booking, I would ask whether other rooms have larger toilet compartments. If not, I would reluctantly look at other hotels in this otherwise perfect neighborhood. If you’re looking for modern luxury, this may not be the hotel for you. But if you’re looking for authentic Parisian charm in one of the city’s best neighborhoods, Hôtel d’Angleterre Saint-Germain-des-Prés is well worth considering.

This is a lovely, small, old hotel with very large comfortable rooms . It has a good deal of character and comfort. The lovely garden was great to sit in and eat breakfast. This is a lovely, small, old hotel with very large comfortable rooms . It has a good deal of character and comfort. The lovely garden was great to sit in and eat breakfast. Breakfast was included and quite good. Staff are extremely helpful , including carrying up suitcases in winding stairs. Location is great to walk to many Paris attractions and also easy walk to the metro to get around Paris. There are some fun , good restaurants and bars/ cafes nearby. I stayed there twice in this trip and enjoyed both stays. Second stay was during one of the French heatwaves. There is no AC but the fans and thick walls helped a good deal. Rooms were very quiet.
