We stayed at Relais Vieux for 4 nights at the beginning of a 2 week trip. We arrived at about 1 in the afternoon and our rooms were ready which was terrific after a long travel day! We were able to settle in before we began exploring Paris. The hotel was built in the 1400s so it has loads of character and a tiny elevator so we could get our luggage upstairs. The room we booked was the smallest available and, while small, it was very clean and comfortable. That said, if you like a little more “elbow room”, book one of their larger rooms. The staff was incredibly helpful and provided me with restaurant suggestions several weeks before we arrived so I could make reservations. One of our favorite meals of the trip was at the recommended Ferdinand Christine (reviewed separately). The hotel is on a quiet side street but is right by the Seine and an easy walk to Notre Dame, St Chappelle and The Louvre. There are many little restaurants and cafes nearby. We had a tasty breakfast there 3 of the 4 days and the dining room is very comfortable. But if you prefer to venture out for breakfast there are loads of options within an easy walk. Special thanks to Gilles and Jean Marie for their helpfulness and kind was during our stay. I highly recommend this hotel!

We spent a wonderful week at this lovely, well-located hotel near Notre Dame and easily served by public transportation. Gilles, Jean-Marie, and the room/breakfast staff were helpful and attentive. The breakfasts were generous and typically Parisian. I lived in France years ago and never felt more at home there than during our recent stay. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel during future visits. Many thanks for your hospitality

The Relais is a small but perfect place - if you don’t want a big, impersonal hotel - in the center of Paris, convenient to all of the sites you want to see: 3 mins to Sainte-Chapelle, 5 to Notre Dame, n, 2 mins to Olace St Michel. The best poets used to hang out here and the building was built in the 1400’s. The staff are delightful and very helpful, speaking English fluently if you’re not fluent in French.

“Unremarkable, clean hotel in fabulous location”

As many have noted, the location in a quiet street close to a lot of restaurants is convenient. While we were visiting there was some minor construction noise during the day but nothing awful. As many have noted, the location in a quiet street close to a lot of restaurants is convenient. While we were visiting there was some minor construction noise during the day but nothing awful. The elevator is tiny and would cause trouble for people with claustrophobia. The stairs are treacherous but we took them as we were on a low floor. The property has been renovated although the carpet choice is questionable (very commercial and frankly didn’t inspire confidence). The bathroom was spotlessly clean and the bed comfortable though we could feel the two mattresses joint. The shower has a high step and is fairly small. People with mobility issues may prefer a different property. We only had breakfast once and were happy we had not chosen to have it there every day as it was unremarkable. Overall, this property has 4 stars but to us felt as if it were closer to a three star (based on the French system it had an elevator which is required for 4 star). The front desk was staffed with kind people who engaged in banter and conversation with guests. The one private taxi we were sent by the hotel (a driver who works with them frequently) left us in the wrong location despite a price that was higher than a cab. And he complained incessantly about traffic etc. We chose to use uber and public taxis the rest of the time. Overall, we would not stay here again but it was convenient and clean.
