“Heat wave”

I stayed at this hotel for an extended period during the middle of a heat wave. Overall, it's a good option for business travelers. While there aren't many amenities geared toward tourists, the location is convenient, and the suite I was given was fairly spacious. The breakfast was good, and the staff was consistently friendly and helpful throughout my stay. My only real complaint was the air conditioning. I understand that the city was experiencing an intense heat wave, but even on the milder days, the room remained uncomfortably warm. Better temperature control would have made the stay much more comfortable.

My room was clean and comfortable, but friends on the same floor as us had a room with badly stained carpets and some damaged furniture. The staff at reception were generally nice, and artwork in the common areas was interesting. We stayed at the hotel during a heat wave and, as other reviewers have pointed out, to get to the closest Metro station, or to the local shopping concourse, you had to travel up a VERY long set of stairs outdoors—not fun during a heat wave. There were two sets of escalators, but only one section of the DOWN escalators was in service. There was, however, a door from the hotel's second-floor restaurant, which exited near the top of the concourse (the door was open one day). But when we took the elevator there and tried to use that restaurant door to avoid the huge flight of stairs in 35-degree weather, we were told it was not possible. I understand that there may be security issues about people coming and going through the restaurant, but to refuse to help paying guests (some seniors, some with canes, etc.) seems cruel. Staff blamed the city/government for the external escalators not working, but they had a solution that would have assisted their hotel guests, and they refused to use it. This is one of the reasons I would not return to this hotel. The bar (where we waited until our room was ready) has an 80s cocktail lounge vibe, but not in a cool, vintage way. It is just uninviting and a bit shabby. I had to ask to have our table wiped off after the previous guests had spilled something. The server brought some free snacks (nuts and something that looked like dried olives), but we soon realized that the same snacks get passed from table to table, with people putting their fingers into the same tray. Yuck.
