“Lovely and good location”

This is a simple but very well put together hotel where Flaubert is present in every room. Try not to stay on the court side, very noisy early morning. Breakfast is very good.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, near the marketplace and a great choice of restaurants. It is comfortable, clean and quiet and the reception staff are friendly and helpful. We missed our English breakfast teabags - it was impossible to make a good cup of tea with tepid water and tea leaves. Otherwise there was a good choice of breakfast items and great coffee.

“Great location”

This was my 2nd time here. Excellent location. Nice breakfast with lots of variety. The superior double room is fine; a little tight. Front desk staff ok, not particularly friendly. Public areas good....love the literary theme.

We were here on Thursday, May 7, 2026 staying one night. We drove from Luxembourg City on our way to Le Mont St. Michel. Rouen was our stop for the night, and to explore Rouen a bit. I booked the hotel online and asked to include parking and the breakfast for two people. The price was reasonable enough and the fact it is located right near the main square and the Joan Of Arc church. The initial problem was that I had very little information given on how and where to park the car. We had the address on our car GPS, so we found that location, but were blocked from entering by bollards. One had to enter a code into the nearby pillar. However, the code I was given was not valid. Fortunately, I was able to call and get a new code. Then followed driving a few more blocks through pedestrian traffic on very narrow streets with parked vehicles and other obstacles. Finally arriving in the hotel courtyard, I did not know what to do next. A hotel staff person came out and directed me to drive forward to the wall and the garage door opened automatically. It was barely room for one car. Then what? I saw a button on the wall lit up, so I pushed it. I thought a door might open up in front of the car, nope. I pushed the button again, nothing. Then my wife noticed the door opened again behind the car. Voila! we were in an elevator and went down one level, did not know that. So backed the car out and parked. We rode a people elevator nearby back up to ground level again. I had pre-paid online for the hotel room, parking & breakfast, the lady at the desk disagreed and said I still had to pay, so I did with credit card. We went up to our room # 403 with the luggage. We then were going to explore the town but in passing by the front desk, we were called over. They admitted that the room had already been previously paid for, so they had to see my card again to issue a credit. Seems they really don't know much about running a hotel. The room was fine with a view overlooking the hotel courtyard. There are images and info about Gustave Flaubert all over the hotel as the namesake. Breakfast in the morning is crammed into a very small space. We couldn't find any clean tables, so we sat at a cluttered one. We wanted coffee, but there were no cups anywhere. I had to stop a staff person to ask what to do. Tables pushed together so close it is difficult to maneuver around. We were to breakfast at 7:30AM (hours 6-10AM) and a number of food items were already gone. The buffet area was very crowded and difficult to get to the food items. We liked the location, but there seems to be much disorganization here. I would not recommend this place.
