Lourdes has more hotels than any city in France outside Paris. With a largely captive clientele for much of the year, some hotels in this famous pilgrimage centre can be inclined to rest on their laurels. Happily, that was not our experience. The reception staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Our room was spacious, comfortable and well equipped, while the air conditioning proved invaluable during one of the hottest weeks of the year in south-west France. The food was consistently very good, with a thoughtfully planned menu that offered both variety and quality throughout our stay. The Baked Alaska laced with a local liquor was a nice 'au revoir'

“Padoue Visit With Mobility Scooter”

Travelling with an octogenarian who is disabled so uses a mobility scooter and walking frame; we stayed in a disabled room on the 5th floor. Entry to the hotel by scooter was easy. Lifts were just big enough to accommodate 1 adult standing and a ridden scooter. The room was spacious and we had twin single beds as requested. There was a tv, kettle and mini fridge. The bathroom was equipped with a walk-in shower and shower seat and had hand rails at convenient positions throughout. A wheel chair could possibly have fitted under the wash basin but we did not have one. The room was clean throughout and there was additional storage and a safe. Extra bedding was available. The view out the was mainly of adjacent hotels and a bit of the street. The beds were comfortable and the sheets clean and adequate. The air conditioning was good considering we were experiencing a heatwave at the time. We stayed full board and found the breakfast buffet great. There was a selection of cereals, pastries, fruits, hams and cheeses, yoghurts, bread and toast; as well as hot beverages and cold drinks. Staff were on hand for assistance and the dining tables and chairs clean. I particularly enjoyed the pastries, doughnuts and fruit juice. We were allowed to use the mobility scooter in the dining area and could set aside chairs so that the scooter could be placed alongside the table to replace them. Staff were helpful to do this. Dinner was a set 3 course menu which we enjoyed although I felt the meats were just a processed affair. Drinks had to be purchased. Supper was 4 courses and the food just as good. Throughout the dining experience we found the portions adequate, served in time and at the right temperature. There was always staff at hand and they served food alternatives when requested. They even made up a dinner I could take up to our room when my mother was too tired to attend the dining room. I would recommend the hotel Padoue for someone with mobility issues. Our visit was to see the Lourdes Sanctuary and it is located just a few walking minutes from the hotel. The pavements and roads to the location were no obstacle for the mobility scooter we had with us (which was an Apex Alumlite).
