“Excellent French bistro”

Absolutely superb restaurant in Cotignac. Very welcoming Maitre D and staff. Classy, but very relaxed interior. Great menu, varied and interesting. I had the leeks vinaigrette followed by the scallops. Presentation of both dishes excellent. Flavours were unusual and excellent. Great experience.

A Wonderful Anniversary Weekend We had a fantastic weekend away for our anniversary. The hotel surprised us with a bottle of bubbles and a cake — such a lovely touch! The hotel itself was excellent: very quiet, well located, and exactly what we were looking for on a kid-free getaway. The town was lovely, with great options for eating out and a beautiful local area to explore. We hired bikes from Chris at Paca Bikes (about a 10-minute drive away) — they had better availability and were cheaper than Coti's. We also hiked up to the top of Gros Bession. It’s quite a trek, but definitely worth it if you enjoy a 3–4 hour walk or run. A perfect mix of relaxation and adventure!

Loved Lou Calen. It’s a somewhat quirky hotel and all the better for it. It has character. For example Reception doubles as a bookshop. Delightful. Loved Lou Calen. It’s a somewhat quirky hotel and all the better for it. It has character. For example Reception doubles as a bookshop. Delightful. The bistro restaurant does what it says on the tin but the Secret Garden restaurant failed to match the hype. The room was as good as good as any top 5 star hotel I’ve been to, even with a Japanese loo (beyond my pay grade). Lovely large balcony too (Room 101). Bottle of local Rose wine. Huge comfy bed. Clean with beautiful finish. Top notch. The 2 pools are fabulous and the gardens an oasis. I loved also that outside the door you’re right in the main street of Contignac. You can pop out to eat, have a drink, boulangerie etc. The staff are really helpful and kind. They helped us hire electric bikes for a morning tour of the area with maps (€25 - highly recommend). Another day we drove to Moutiers Saint Marie and hired a kayak to paddle up the Gorges Verdun (€20). Great fun. The village is the prettiest I think I’ve ever been to. Buy artisan ice cream at L’Etoile Givree - fab homemade ice cream (and cones!). If eating out try Restaurant Jeanot 50 yds away and the Boulangerie Lou Gourmands in Place Mairie is lovely. Market day is Tuesday. Overall a really enjoyable, relaxing stay.

We had an amazing experience at Lou Calen in Cotignac. A gorgeous, modern luxury hotel which makes you feel immediately relaxed. The staff are super friendly and can't do enough for you on your stay. Special shout out to Camilla who was fantastic in sorting us a room last minute for 4 nights. We had the best time exploring the town, making use of the 2 pools and beautiful grounds. The room was decorated fantastically and the bed very comfy. Secure parking with a little walk upto the hotel front. We will be back in the future thank you for making our stay so special.
